Honestly some of the worst people in the world. A nation of nothing but scammers top to bottom.

They are taking over

This often what happens when dishonest people move to a high trust society. They don't care about laws or morals and will lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead and then call the natives dumb for not doing the same.

This exactly is the problem.

The issue is with quantity of immigration. A few immigrants coming in is not a problem. But when it becomes a flood, even if legal, it changes the local culture of the host country.

I know there is a huge Indian temple near my parent's neighborhood in Allen, TX.

I prefer the Indians to the Pakistanis or Hamas supporters.

but we should still crack down on the illegal ones.

The Indians will steal your jobs. The Pakistanis will steal your lives.

Pick wisely.

That said, I am happy Trump applied tariffs on India. I hope they are reciprocal only.
I also want Trump to apply tariffs on software services and outsourcing. Goes with his general Make in America theme. Nothing should be off the table. We don't need Indian companies, they need us.

I've been reading some India centric forums and some chatter and Indians are convinced that they are not impacted by these tariffs and US will suffer and things here will get expensive etc etc.

Lots of self confidence bordering on overconfidence.

I posted back saying Trump will tariff their service industry soon and the responses were that the US will struggle as most IT backoffice was in India.

Funny enough anytime I'm working with Indian teammates and they aren't responding or producing I'll slip that phrase in and suddenly it gets fixed.

I assume you asked them to Kindly....do the needful.

I'm not sure to what degree this could dampen our relations with India, if at all, but we definitely want India in our corner if hostilities break out with China.

India has been hugely protectionist with tariffs for a long time. If they are also playing footsies with Russia, then they need a dress down.

The downside to tariffs and remittance taxes on India is that there's always the outside chance China and Russia could start their own outsourcing and H1B programs to gain a competitive advantage.

India's one of those countries that kind of flies under the radar on the international scene. But they're plenty devious and have a long history of being so.

Indian refineries halt Russian oil purchases after Trump threats

India's state-owned oil refineries stopped importing Russian oil after US President Donald Trump threatened 100% tariffs for cooperation with Russia. The suspension began this week, four industry sources told Reuters.

Indian Oil Corp, the largest oil company operating 10 of India's 20 refineries with a 60-million-ton annual capacity, has ceased purchasing Russian oil. Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, and Mangalore Refinery Petrochemical have also halted imports, sources said. Refineries are seeking alternatives on the spot market, buying from OPEC countries in the Middle East and West Africa.

Private refineries Reliance Industries and Nayara Energy, the largest buyers of Russian oil in India, are affected, with Nayara hit by the EU's 18th sanctions package, Reuters reports.

That's good.

The price of oil is about to get more expensive for all of us.

India was buying Russian oil at a big discount - sometimes $20 to $30 cheaper than regular prices. That helped keep global oil costs in check. If they stop and go back to buying from the usual sources, it will push prices up for everyone.

And US has been playing footsies with a terrorist country of Pakistan.
If you read history, India was forced to ally with Russia because the US provided Pakistan with arms and funding which they used against India. This alliance has lasted over 50 years.

Why should they stop being friends with Russia which has been a friend in need (unlike the US who is no one's friends, even the Pakistanis don't trust the US as everything is transactional with the US).

The US wants to push GMO into India's agriculture. They don't want that cancer causing crap and said no. I agree with their stand on this.

Actually I agree with India on both their objections - Russia and Agriculture. We cannot dictate who their friends are (when we harbor terrorist nations ourselves) and cannot push cancer into other countries.

While Trump has been barking like a mad dog, Indian Prime Minister Modi has been silent. I think India will also get a 90 day reprieve to work on a deal. Let's see.

If you actually calculated the value of the GDP growth and not as a %, the US growth dwarves India's growth by a substantial amount.

Classic strawman.

The point is Trump said India was a "dead economy". It is not. It has been growing fast and consistently so.

India is growing faster than we are. If you want to talk about people pooping on the streets, I can show you places in Los Angeles where they do the same.

You said that about China 40 years ago and today they are eating our lunch.

I didn't say **** about China 40 years ago. I'm 37.

India is a ****hole, 'dying' economy. The poverty rate says as much. Their entire economy is propped by US consumerism. Without us, they're nothing. Force them to the open market for energy instead of the black market Russian oil and see what happens.

If not you, it is one of your elders. A lot of people in the US said that thinking we are infallible.

It is not a dying economy. It is a growing economy. The poverty rate is declining, compare it to where it was in the 1950s.

I am sure.

They have a relationship with Russia from the 70s or earlier. Why should they change it to please you? They are a democracy, they will do as they please. They don't survive on USAID loans.
You call it black market, they call it buying from an open market. Just like the US funds terrorist nations around the world and call it "in our own national interest" or "spreading democracy".

Should slap them with more, then do not let them get any better than 15%

We need the tariff money, maybe it will motivate congress to slash spending if we are close to a balanced budget

There's going to be a lot spending early next year when the new tax cuts hit for overtime and tips. Think we get all that back when filing taxes, which means there will be bigger spending spree than usual.

The BBB will bring in more revenue than less, so that also may motivate them

Who am I kidding though, they are not going to do crap on the budget. The senators mainly are a giant bag a sticking ass crap, they made the bill worse. Fing RINOs

What do you think India and other countries were doing before the Russia and Ukraine war?
You think its cheaper to buy oil from Russia v/s Iran? Russia is mainly viable now because of the war and because they are selling at throwaway prices.

Yeah, there are a lot of Indians in the world. I don't ever want to visit India myself, but I (and my kids) have had plenty of Indian friends/associates who simply do not in any way meet the negative stereotypes.

The Indian gov't I have perceived (mainly from aerospace sector observations) to be a very, very slow-moving and fairly corrupt/inefficient one when it comes to regulations/trade/purchases etc. I doubt Modi's trade negotiation team as such even has the ability to meet Trump's goals/timeline, so this status is frankly unsurprising.

But wait, I thought he was Putin's puppet?

Looks like a few weeks ago that he finally woke up to the fact that the Russians were playing him.

I think Putin/Russia has made a long term strategic blunder. They expanded their strategic goals from Crimea and the Donbass which Trump was willing to negotiate away to now the entirety of Ukraine. They want to eliminate the current Ukraine government and put in a pro-Russian puppet government making it a vassal state under Russia similar to Belarus.

So basically, Russia's goals have now morphed into something that has the highest probability of Western Ukraine fighting to the death to keep their independence, made it impossible to negotiate with the current Ukraine government, is the goal that freaks the EU out the most with a huge refugee crisis, and basically given Trump either choice A) A Fall of Saigon embarrassment that would severely damage his legacy and reputation domestically and internationally or choice B) Get tough with Russia.

So choice B for Trump it has to be. And Russia has now backed itself into a corner incurring tremendous cost in treasure and blood, that IMO will eventually be them having tried to buy too big of a house than they could afford. The idea that the Russians are buying into thinking they can completely suppress all of Western Ukraine and install their own puppet government, yanking the status of an independent country from millions of people's lives and think that is a doable goal that is going to end well is kind of crazy...but that is the corner they have backed themselves into now.

Another key point in this though is Trump has shifted the cost of that war in Ukraine to Europe. We are just selling them weapons now not giving them aid for the most part. Note this is also complaining about India buying weapons from Russia instead of us, it's about money not war. Trump essentially is buying off the Military Industrial Complex by having them sell to other countries instead of our own spending, our spending will be focused on new tech. At least that is what I am seeing here.

Many moving pieces going on. Another is that he hit Pakistan with tariffs as well.

That was part of it but it was secondary, the real reason was India needed help in the war against Pakistan in the 60s. We wouldn't help as we were aligned with Pakistan, so India approached Russia, the other big power. That relationship has lasted.

I think so too, there will be a deal soon. This is just extreme pressure applied by Trump.
