Again, in a few years, most "models" on Only Fans will be non-breathing, but the average IQ will go up.

Agreed, but then what about when you want to see them in person, interviewed live or determine you've been catfished on the interwebs?

The bar is pretty low here - I'm willing to give AI a shot.

I would like to know how AI is going to replace reporters. I get that it can read existing news stories and create new stories about those existing stories, but how is it going to know about current events unless you have a Reporter/Journalist write the initial story?
The government's Bureau of Public Information will tell it what to produce.

I understand why translator/interpreter is at the top of the list, but as someone in this field, for some things you're always going to want a human touch. I translate to build target packages and hunt terrorists. Yes AI powered translation tools have advanced a ton in the last 10 years, NO I wouldn't want to kill a target based on AI translations.

Now for business meetings and crap like that... yeah interpreting is going to die off very soon.

But I think for highly specialized military applications we keep the human element in the room making the final decisions.

The longer term concern is that the more people reach for AI to answer all their questions, the less problem solving and critical thinking skills people have in general. We're already seeing a drop in these skills in recent high school and college graduates. It can and likely will lead to a societal deficiency in the ability to understand and make such decisions, which will lead to more jobs moving to AI, including decision making for highly specialized military applications. Skynet will come not because it will get good enough to replace human decision makers, but because human decision makers will degrade and eventually become incapable of being trusted to do so.

That thought has crossed my mind as well. It's become routine in the last year or so to hear senior leaders remark that AI writes their emails, background papers etc.

In isolation, not a big deal, but the cumulative effect of using less brain power day after day has to lead to a level of degradation in your ability to critically think. I'm working my way through a senior level PME right now and I'm shocked at my peers high usage of AI to help them understand war fighting concepts. Instead of thinking through the processes they just ask AI to spit out a summary.

AI has become such a major tool that even I am starting to learn how to utilize it in residential and light commercial construction. At this time its not a human replacement for particular jobs, but its quickly becoming a new tool like excel, the cell phone, or email.

I'm horrible with technology but even I can understand that you either grow with AI now or frantically figure it out in the future.

This isn't thorough enough, but I suppose AI could figure out on its own to add commentary around how smart its kids are, what awesome vacations it takes, and how its backyard is the only place to find the best steaks/ribs/etc.

I could see it impacting actors pretty significantly. For example, AI genned extras in movie scenes. What if it gets good enough where entire commercials are nothing but genned humans interacting?

I also see it making a significant impact in the legal profession. The last thing I would do right now is pursue a law degree.

I don't see either of those on the list, unless I missed it.

What won't be in there: problem solvers, critical thinkers, intuitive thinkers, etc.

I'm a network engineer. Sometimes, I bounce AI for sandbox network configurations and automation tasks (because python scripting is not one of my stronger suits...embarrassed to say). The results are interesting and often pretty damned accurate. At present, I will add that AI for such tasks is near useless for anyone that does not already have experience or know how to phrase prompts to AI inquiries.

Phrasing a prompt for AI still requires some fairly critical thinking on the human's part. Once the AI results are generated, the person still needs to be able to look through the AI result and be able to discern whether it is legitimate or not. In short, it's just a matter of time building trust with AI tools. AI won't put me out of job anytime soon, as someone still has to rack that **** in some dirty, nasty network closet, cable it, and plug it in. In time, robots will be able to do that too...but not today.

More than 50% of all internet traffic is now bot driven, that number will go up a lot soon. Dead internet theory was previously just a conspiracy theory but it's here now and it's going to get exponentially worse. Imagine what happpens once AI begins training on other AI. They will eventually become incomprehensible to humans.

Yep, it's affecting every single field. The only reason I don't use it more is because my company has blocked the majority of AI platforms because our executives are geriatric boomers who can barely use a computer, much less AI.

We're going to get absolutely left behind if that does not change.

It all started when calculators were invented. Now students can't do math. Then word processors meant they didn't have to learn how to hand write. Then spell checkers meant they didn't have to learn how to spell. Self driving cars is the next thing to rob kids of skills.

Soon we'll be like people in WALL-E if we're not already.

Seems like getting into the trades is the safest. This could end up being a good thing. If we can less young kids wasting 4-6 years in a left wing seminary we'll all be better off.
I just had to pay a plumber over $1k for about a 3 hour job replacing a pipe in my front yard. If more the pipe would've been damaged it could've gone as high as $3500.
Plumber is where it's at! Might be the safest, highest paying job in America.
