I find it utterly unsurprising that democrats, as demonstrated on this thread and in the government in this case, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit. It's very exemplifying.
Because Republicans have never gamed the system for their own benefit ... like by convening for the purpose of out-of-cycle redistricting to increase the number of Republican House districts because Trump is afraid of losing the House in 2026. I find it utterly unsurprising that Republicans, as demonstrated on this board, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit.
Democrats need to stop being ******* and start using the Republican playbook to get stuff done.

In response to Democrats doing it. Also, there is no set cycle for redistricting. It can be done any time a state chooses to do so. It is, as someone would say, legitimate.

And they will lose this one, it's just a matter of when.

Texas House Democrats were evacuated from their hotel in Illinois this morning due to a bomb threat. A press conference for this afternoon was cancelled.

It could be federal if you're sending money across state lines. But, I thought I read something where there are so many available loopholes to get them money that it makes a bribery charge almost impossible to stick.
Tend to agree. Bribery of a US Congresscritter? Yeah sure, that would be federal. But a state Rep inside a state? State jurisdiction, if provable. Obstruction of Congressional duties or hearings (think Jan 6th) yes federal.
So still a bit confused.
State officials have been charged under 18 U.S.C. 201 for accepting bribes in the commision of their position - Rod Blagojevich being one of the most famous.

Leaving the state in abdication of your elected responsibilities is not a First Amendment issue. There is nothing about that that is protected speech.
They can be heard on the floor of the House while they're doing what they were elected to do.

18 U.S.C. 201
If officials outside of Texas bribed Democrats to leave the state, it's a federal offense.
Quote:

YOU should NEVER talk about having a use for facts...
I was correct in my statement - they did redistricting in 2024. I misunderstood WHY they had done it in 2024. Mea culpa.
BTW, what HTown didn't tell you was WHY the process took so long...the Dems attempt to gerrymander in 2020 was SO BLATANTLY BAD that it was ruled unconstitutional...Not sure why HTown left THAT fact out of his snarky response to me...
Following the 2020 census, the Democratic-controlled state legislature rejected the maps submitted by the IRC and instead enacted its own maps. Republican plaintiffs challenged those districts in state court, arguing that they were unconstitutional gerrymanders in violation of the 2014 amendment. In a 2022 decision, the New York State Court of Appeals agreed, striking down the state legislature's maps and holding that they were drawn with impermissible partisan intent.
Now, do you care about the fact that Democrats gerrymandered much worse than TX and have done so for years?

This thread is filled with butthurt feels from people who are mad at Dems for preventing Republicans from getting what they want.
Those Dems are not doing anything other than looking pathetic. You have a couple angry disgruntled black women taking up the spotlight, or heaven forbid Al Green find a live camera.
Dems cannot stop this and the longer that obstruct the stupider they look. Let them hold out until 2026. The party of Abrego-Garcia, mayor Bass, Tim Walz, Newsom, Crockett, AOC, Bernie, sparticus? Pocahontas? Dumbface Booker? Mayor Pete? Kamala? Hunter Biden? Hilldawg? Schumer?
Start sprinkling in Momdani and friends and top to bottom the Dems are talentless. Keep up these antics and midterms could be epic. Imagine what Trump will do with supermajorities in both houses and another couple
ScOTUS picks.
Guess the Attorney General was too busy doing who knows what overseas so the Governor had to use his own lawyers. https://t.co/5yTKtf6ImG

I loathe gerrymandering period. Always have. I don't care what letter is behind your name. This, "but he did it," game is getting old between the parties. Someone needs to act like a grownup in the room.Ellis Wyatt said:
I am still waiting for a single one of them to condemn their own party's massive gerrymandering in every state they can do it.
