I find it utterly unsurprising that democrats, as demonstrated on this thread and in the government in this case, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit. It's very exemplifying.

Because Republicans have never gamed the system for their own benefit ... like by convening for the purpose of out-of-cycle redistricting to increase the number of Republican House districts because Trump is afraid of losing the House in 2026. I find it utterly unsurprising that Republicans, as demonstrated on this board, are fully on board with gaming the system for their own benefit.

Democrats need to stop being ******* and start using the Republican playbook to get stuff done.

Republicans are just trying to catch up to the Dems, who have gamed the system far longer than the GOP...

EOT. Republicans have every right to move forward with the redistricting plan, whenever they damn well want.

Democrats are such drama queen whiners when they lose. And they will lose this one, it's just a matter of when.

In response to Democrats doing it. Also, there is no set cycle for redistricting. It can be done any time a state chooses to do so. It is, as someone would say, legitimate.

Texas actually has historical precedent of conducting redistricting if or when they see fit. A lawsuit filed by the Harris County Republican Party chairman in 1963 forced the Democrats in the Texas Legislature to address redistricting in 1965. That Harris County Chairman won the newly created CD7 seat in 1966.

He was also elected POTUS in 1988.

Prior to that, the Texas Legislature had sometimes skipped redistricting for decades at a time.

Other than the first half sentence, it's impressive how much wrong can be posted in one post. The last sentence is laughably naive and I hope sarcasm, but I doubt it.

Probably called it in themselves to get out of paying for their rooms, particularly once it was learned the source of those payments would be scrutinized.

So they pulled the "Spirit Airlines Comp Yo Hotel" lever.

Tend to agree. Bribery of a US Congresscritter? Yeah sure, that would be federal. But a state Rep inside a state? State jurisdiction, if provable. Obstruction of Congressional duties or hearings (think Jan 6th) yes federal.

So still a bit confused.

State officials have been charged under 18 U.S.C. 201 for accepting bribes in the commision of their position - Rod Blagojevich being one of the most famous.

Just curious what may show up during investigation of all financial records?
Here's hoping for some evidence of multiple felonies may be found.

If officials outside of Texas bribed Democrats to leave the state, it's a federal offense.

Do you have a link showing this was the charge?

18 USC 201 specifically defines "public official" as:

Quote:

means Member of Congress, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner, either before or after such official has qualified, or an officer or employee or person acting for or on behalf of the United States, or any department, agency or branch of Government thereof, including the District of Columbia, in any official function, under or by authority of any such department, agency, or branch of Government, or a juror;

These types have no use for facts.

YOU should NEVER talk about having a use for facts...

I was correct in my statement - they did redistricting in 2024. I misunderstood WHY they had done it in 2024. Mea culpa.

BTW, what HTown didn't tell you was WHY the process took so long...the Dems attempt to gerrymander in 2020 was SO BLATANTLY BAD that it was ruled unconstitutional...Not sure why HTown left THAT fact out of his snarky response to me...

Following the 2020 census, the Democratic-controlled state legislature rejected the maps submitted by the IRC and instead enacted its own maps. Republican plaintiffs challenged those districts in state court, arguing that they were unconstitutional gerrymanders in violation of the 2014 amendment. In a 2022 decision, the New York State Court of Appeals agreed, striking down the state legislature's maps and holding that they were drawn with impermissible partisan intent.

Now, do you care about the fact that Democrats gerrymandered much worse than TX and have done so for years?

Thank you for the respnse response. And what you provided was quite interesting, informative and factual.
ETA
quote from the article
  • The state legislature, in early 2024, approved new congressional districts. This time, no court challenges were filed
And that after approval w/ no court challenge California New York still had egregious gerrymandering.

edit. I named the wrong state, "California on my mind" or senility setting in.

Those Dems are not doing anything other than looking pathetic. You have a couple angry disgruntled black women taking up the spotlight, or heaven forbid Al Green find a live camera.

Dems cannot stop this and the longer that obstruct the stupider they look. Let them hold out until 2026. The party of Abrego-Garcia, mayor Bass, Tim Walz, Newsom, Crockett, AOC, Bernie, sparticus? Pocahontas? Dumbface Booker? Mayor Pete? Kamala? Hunter Biden? Hilldawg? Schumer?

Start sprinkling in Momdani and friends and top to bottom the Dems are talentless. Keep up these antics and midterms could be epic. Imagine what Trump will do with supermajorities in both houses and another couple
ScOTUS picks.

Dems need race as an issue as most humans need oxygen.

The problem for them is that many more people no longer rely on CNN/NPR etc. for news/analysis. Democrats have zero defense against political gerrymandering, absent race. That's why this is so existential to them.

I have to chuckle at what a dissent by KBJ on this issue might look like, regarding overturning 'majority minority' districts as a constitutional imperative. I'd probably read that thing all the way through something like a half dozen times just for the entertainment.

There is NO WAY to draw a district map without political bias. It's impossible.

Even when I try with tools like DavesRedistricting...

If I try to draw a map that minimizes County Splitting in big metro areas - there will be a remainder that will be attached to a red area most likely. Then you end up splitting the county next door to accommodate the needed split. Inevitably, political bias would STILL be used no matter what - because someone has to decide what areas will be combined with other areas.

Ok, so if politics is all about numbers, and our opponent has stacked the deck in their states to maximise their numbers in the US Congress, we are just supposed to "be the better man" and leave the deck unstacked in our own states? That is the pathway to permanent minority status in the Congress. If they are going to do it and it is deemed legal, then we should absolutely be doing it too. Doesn't matter if we would "rather not have to resort to that", because they have already done it and will bury us if we don't respond.
