So both Trump and Putin have now returned home? No second meeting?

What was accomplished other than giving Putin a helping hand out of his global political isolation?

Is Trump now going to implement the grave consequences he promised if there was no ceasefire?

What was this all about other than another distraction so Putin can keep stalling and killing?

I'm physically ill letting this War Criminal and enemy on American soil...hell, a red carpet.

The red carpet was completely uncalled for. That meeting should have been behind closed doors without all the hoopla.

Who cares if he walked on a red carpet or concrete, or was met on the tarmac or inside a building? It's Trump's style to do it this way and he's the one that got elected president. At least he's coherent enough to have a thoughtful policy strategy and actually capable of having the conversations to make a go of it.

Obligatory "NPR lol" but interesting details here.

https://www.npr.org/2025/08/16/nx-s1-5504196/trump-putin-summit-documents-left-behind

Had a Biden official left behind an itinerary on a hotel printer, NPR would not have revealed it.

Nothing secret in the schedule was revealed. Nothingburger. Didn't the Republican-led Congress defund NPR?

We'll see. So far it's pretty much all talk. Didn't we just pass a deadline where swift sanctions were going to take place?

It makes me proud to be an American when our president rolls out a literal red carpet for a revanchist, murderous dictator who invaded a sovereign democracy. Wild times.

I missed your disgust about the mental patient president who recently departed the WH inviting 20,000,000+ illegal alien criminals and their sex slaves to invade the US.

When was it removed from the table? Trump never said sanctions are off the table. Is this some CNN talking point being spread by one of their many mindless newsreaders?

Where have the possibility of sanctions being removed from the table? Post the link.

Trump said no new sanctions etc. for now/next few weeks basically, as the meeting went well. He never takes things off the table absent a deal.

You are correct, he just keeps kicking them down the road. I believe the term you're looking for is feckless.

I would expect that since there are ongoing, active negotiations that appear to be making some progress, the timeline for sanctions was likely reset. The sanctions can be initiated at any point Trump believes Putin isn't dealing in good faith.
bobbranco

Trump said he would give a reprieve but never said I won't impose sanctions. The left does not understand negotiating with liars. Evidence = every Democrat presidency since Kennedy.

Thanks for the article. And no, I get no pleasure from it. I just want Trump to back up what he says since that is all Putin understands. If he took the time to bring him to Alaska, he had the home field advantage to clearly outline the US position and the implications of not meeting them now. This isn't the first time Putin has done this. It's classic KGB/Russian geopolitics.

Trump forgot one very important point: Russia gets a vote too, for better or worse. If Trump thought he was going to be able to sweet-talk Putin into a quick deal, he's sadly mistaken.
Trump said they're very close to a deal, but it sounds like a deal that Ukraine will have to say not only no to, but hell no. And their body language gave it all away. There may have been some progress made, but anyone thinking this is over in the next six months is kidding themselves.

The Trump-Putin deal is for something much bigger and more strategic than Ukraine. Ukraine will get solved sooner or later, but the bigger joint enemy is globalism and the endless wars the globalists require to complete tgeir stranglehold on the world.

Per libs, this meeting was nothing more than Trump telling Putin he can keep Ukraine in exchange for the original copy of the pee tape and also the sheets from the bed. Weird fetish Trump has.

Meanwhile, Americans who have brain cells saw Trump bring another global leader to a stage, buzz him with bombers and a show of force that resonates with Putin, and probably told him that if he had those kinds of toys he wouldn't be getting his ass whipped by a failed actor / comedian who wears olive green track suits.

It really is sad to see the TDS-ers try to minimize anything Trump does to further world peace. And yes, they absolutely lap up the MSNBC and NPR talking points and then regurgitate them on here acting like it is their informed, unbiased, intellectual take on geopolitics.

They should put their keyboards down and get back to their soy lattes whilst their wives make them dress in capris pants to take her to the saturday all you can eat buffet.

You can't negate battlefield gains at the negotiating table...

Ukraine lost the ground...some of it as far back as 2014. Either "officially" give it up in exchange for a future that protects what's left; or fight forever.

Either way, the US needs to stay out of it. Not our fight. Not our interests.

In spite of the hand wringers, Putin does not want to put the USSR back together. He couldn't if he wanted to by the way.

Zelenskyy is only concerned with personal gain, like the Biden family. He doesn't want peace.

Hardly a lib, but if that makes you feel better, so be it.

This war was going on during the campaign and for the last 6 months and Trump ran his mouth about ending it during the campaign. This isn't business which is all Trump understands and Witcoff(sp) is in over his head. Trump himself even admitted the Putin is "tapping him along". How many more chances should Trump give him since you think this is a long process?

One man can end this war today. He needs to be convinced to take his gains and go home. Trump needs to show him that willpower.

No...the feckless you're referring to would be the DNC and everyone of its card carrying constituents. Come back when (if) you have some meaningful stroke to compete with.

Given you obvious depth of knowledge and infinite experience in negotiating peace deals, how did you determine that Witkoff is in over his head? And negotiating skillz cross boundaries between the business world and the geopolitical world. In fact, many would argue that employing economic warfare vs kinetic may actually bring peace in these situations. See India-Pakistan peace Trump brought to be.

You are correct in that one man can end this war - his name be Zelensky. And he should take his gains and STFU for once.

You're basically mocking Trump. He's working to end the war. Biden only worked to fuel it. Your criticism is misplaced. But of course, that's all you people do.

There was a ton of silence for the last regime beyond "Spend more American money! But no accountability!"

This war is up to Russia, Ukraine, and Europe to resolve. But America is trying while none of them are. As little as I care about Ukraine, this President is more engaged than any in the last 35 years.
