That's a tough one. I know it's movie dialog, but Tom Hanks line at the end of Apollo 13 gets me. We owed it to these men to go back in their lifetime.

It was Tom Hank's line, but the real Jim Lovell was in the movie and a contributor and wrote those words at the end of the movie.

It's just sad to me that we have been unable to re-accomplish what we did over 50 years ago, despite incredible advances in technology and knowledge. It isn't because we lack the capability. It's because of our politics and societal evolution. It speaks volumes to me.

It's pretty amazing that people now days carry more computational power in their pockets than they had in all aspects of the Apollo Missions combined.

Here's a great interview with the Apollo XIII boys on Johnny Carson a few weeks after touchdown.

I find his Gemini experience to be just as compelling.

For sure. On Gemini 7, spending 2 full weeks stuck in a sardine can is unbelievable.

The guy paid his dues as an astronaut. Spent two weeks smelling himself and Frank Borman learning what it took for longer duration flights. Made the first manned trip around the moon. Made a second trip where he almost died, and yet he never seemed disappointed that he never got to walk on the moon.
