Indians get like 70% of the H1Bs.

These jack holes are essentially funding Putins aggression against Ukraine by buying Russian oil.

We have no allies on this planet.

Since the foundation of the country after the end of British rule, India has always maintained a foreign policy of strategic independence. They will always make deals for the betterment of India. They are not going to completely align themselves in any direction.

Along with China and the EU (which is still a significant buyer).
I'm hoping for 50% sanctions on those two as well.

For Ukraine

Would you ever buy weapons from the US if your supply chain was under threat every time the President changed?

Tariffs are fine. Economic pressure is fine. Imposing tariffs because "Russia" is effectively linking India with Russia, which is a strategically obtuse and stupid decision by Trump. What the heck did he think was going to happen?

No they aren't. They don't align with anyone. They will make deals with anyone that it makes sense to make deals with at any given time. Russia's giving them cheap oil. They will do what they can to keep the US close at the same time. Telling them to pick one side or the other under threat of sanction isn't the best way to deal with them.

Exactly. At least not in freaking public.

Forget ever selling them F-35s. Which would have been nice.

Just add a sizable fee for H-1B. Equivalent to a median American annual salary. Let the economics sort it out.

China is not an ally.

The EU is not buying oil directly from Russia. They reduced their buy by 90% after the war began. Has India done the same? The indirect buy is being addressed. Importers are no longer allowed to buy from Turkey or India.

Our best interest is for this war to end. India's interest conflicts with that interest. So hopefully Trump retaliates hard here. Let's see how much pain they can take since they are simply "acting in their own best interest and don't align with anyone". It's not our fault, the US is acting in our own interest just like India. You make it sound like they are ****ing Switzerland or something. FAFO.

So get them to quit. IN PRIVATE.

Tax them on H1Bs, revoke all of H1B VISAs, absolutely roll over them and crush them in private meetings. And why not? We have all the leverage.

There is ZERO reason for blaming India for Ukraine publicly. We are going to ruin a strategic relationship that's taken years to build over freaking Ukraine. Which relationship is more strategic? Ukraine? Or India?

Ukraine is fighting yesterday's depleted superpower.
What we need is more allies against China and more markets to sell our products. Not less.
In a calculus between India and Ukraine, picking Ukraine is absolutely obtuse.

Sure they can.
And America's price is 50% tariffs, and revocation of H1B Visas. And a tax on services being imported from India.

India's move.

When you sweep away all the distractions, it boils down to this for India: there are alternatives for Russian oil, but there aren't any palatable alternatives for American tech (just China, and India is far too suspicious of China to go all in on Chinese stuff).

I'd like to see Trump call in some of the goodwill he's earned in the Middle East to help India find an alternative to Russian oil. Do that and he'll get what he wants from India.

The problem is that the cheapest other source for oil is Iran (closest gulf ports to India)
Trump suggestion? Pakistan (again, another needless infuriating troll).

In a country that is 50/50 (US/Russia split at best), this is a stupid path to go down. Much better to browbeat them at the negotiating table.

How the hell are y'all saying they don't align with anyone?

Is BRICS already forgotten by many of y'all?
Deputy Travis Junior
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I disagree. India doesn't have any intense love for Russia and they sure as hell don't for China (ie they aren't trying to align themselves with that group of countries). If they're digging in, there's a non ideological reason for it. So help make their problems go away and they'll help us.
Deputy Travis Junior
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The strength of BRICS is way overstated. Look at the history of China and India. They aren't going to be strong allies and India sure as hell isn't going to agree to a shared currency that cedes its power over its finances to a communist country that it doesn't like very much.

Now you have me confused. On one thread you said this:
Quote:

Why do you care what happens to Ukraine? It's not a national security interest.

Now you're saying we punish India for supporting a war effort we don't care about?
