He is a ****ing baseball player. Not a CEO.

And Jack Kemp was an NFL quarterback for a good portion of his early adult life.

Didn't stop him from becoming one of the strongest theoreticians behind the Reagan Revolution of the 1980s, the man who should have been Reagan's Vice President and would never have betrayed the legacy as Bush 41 did in his term in office.

If you're willing to give absolute dullards like Biden a free pass because they barely pass a bar exam, then you should at least consider the entirely logical truth that one can come from other walks of life and experience and contribute to this nation's wellbeing in elected government service.

I hope he loses just for this alone.

Well I don't want him to lose for this but I agree that it's no reason he should win and is reason enough to have some extra skepticism. But let's hear what he is all about and has to say.

We are taking about a representative. What qualifications does one really need?

He's not being asked to lead the Ukraine Russia peace talks or head up trade talks with China.

So, too clarify for those of us not knee deep in every political race, Chip Roy is not seeking reelection - he is instead ruining for AG. OP thinks the former baseball player is a shoe in. We shall see.

And to the point about companies hiring former athletes, they are, at the very least, good for PR. Many are more than that. Many are not.

Well, he believes in the soul…

What about good scotch, a hanging curveball, and the small of a woman's back?

Here you go for beliefs:

In terms of action, he is not in office yet. So what are you looking for?

It's f-ing horrible here. Grew up in Dallas and moved to Houston after A&M, I had no idea they hated Dallas so much for no reason. Small peen syndrome is real.

I've met Mark and have had beers with him a few times recently. He has a large physical presence and an "aura", if you will.

I question his motivation and lack of real world experience. He was in a baseball superstar bubble for about a decade, resides in a very wealthy neighborhood with an exclusive country club, and sends his kids to a small private school. How can he relate to the constituents of the district other than saying, "hey, remember my name?"

Mark seems like a great guy and family man. This just seems like a major leap going from Chip Roy to Tex.

Please name the US Rep that truly relates to their district?

Congress is full of carpetbaggers, rich, out-of-touch elites, and people who spend maybe 48 hours per year in their district, outside of campaign appearances.

EDIT: Our rep is Ronny Jackson. He grew up near Lubbock, not Amarillo (or Wichita Falls, both in the district), attended A&M Galveston, and spent a career in the Navy. Never lived in the district until he bought a house in the district.

Yes, he votes with the district wishes for the most part. But he relates to almost no one here

Ok, Ronny can relate by saying he's a Texan, Sea Aggie, and military veteran.

What does Mark have? Grew up in Maryland, major leaguer, moved to Bee Cave and just recently finished his undergraduate degree. Anything else from a candidate running to replace Chip Roy in Congress?

How about less taxes, less regulations and less wars?

What more do you need?

A stronger, experienced republican candidate. This seat could be easily flip blue.

Flip blue?

Say what now? What was the 2024 vote?

And experienced in what?

Answers: yes, a traditional red seat can flip blue with a bad candidate. Mark has zero career experience in anything other than baseball.

Laugh/cry? Did that sound funnier in your head? No, I'm not upset with anything. Just providing my opinion as someone who lives in 21, has voted for Roy, and has concerns with his replacement candidate.

Outside of unusual circumstances, that's not the case at all. Most seats, including TX-21, are designed not to flip.

"Bad" candidates are those that don't really follow the party beliefs or have an existing dislike from the populous.

I understand why people would want "more experience" but Texiera doesn't have the kind of negatives to flip a race. Especially a district Trump won by 20 points

Kinda ironic because Trump was just mentioning Chip at the National Prayer Breakfast saying how he normally has to have Chip on the phone to discuss legislation and get him on board.

So I presume Trump has to regularly go into dealing mode with Chip regarding legislation.

Teixeira appears like he'll be a much easier sell for Trump.

Different strokes....
Im Gipper

So Chip Roy actually wants to discuss proposed legislation rather than just go with whatever Trump wants immediately?

You say that like its a bad thing!

Congress is currently full of lawyers

You want more of that?

And airline cockpits are currently full of trained pilots. I would like someone with the requisite skills and knowledge to do their actual very important job, yes.

So you think only lawyers should be in Congress?

Only farmers in Department of Ag?

Only blue collar workers in Dept of Labor?

You are arguing with a Thermos (whose intellect is on the same level). Not going to get far with trolling loon class here. But I appreciate your effort.

I see signs and get emails and texts from Texiera's campaign all the time. I have not received anything from any other candidate.
