Mark Teixeira MLB great to run for Congress. His name ID and his net worth alone should put him over the top.

If I remember right Teixeira wanted to come to A&M, but Mark Johnson would not give him an offer so he chose Georgia Tech.

Don't know what his specific stances are, but he's good people. His and Chip's kids are at same school as my daughter. Both donate lots of their time at school.

Why?

The recent history of "recognizable" names who have been elected have been extremely disappointing, not to mention the skills that made him rich have zero practical application to politics.

Venture to guess, being famous and wealthy is not grounds for supporting certain politicians. It should be based on policies.

Well, that's not what I was meaning to emphasize. I was just saying that his name ID and his net worth has he can afford to pay his entire campaign without contributions.

We don't elect impersonal policies. We elect people. Often, a famous person is famous because they are influential (in part). And often, they are wealthy because they know how to make, grow, and manage money. Both qualities are desirable in a politician.

You're right by definition, but I'll take an athlete over somebody that went to law school and has been working in a government elected officeholders spot or office for the last 30 years and don't know **** in the real world

The ability to hit dingers is definitely what I want in a politician. Gotta win the annual baseball game.

Our margins of victory/control are razor thin nationally but some conservatives want to continue with the purity tests.

Just hold the f'ing seat in Congress.

I assume TX21 is still a pretty safe conservative seat in the new map, not 100% sure.

If so, I think you'd want a staunch conservative in there. It's not like TX 23 where the only way you'd get a Republican in there in 2018 was to elect Will "The Turd" Hurd.

On this note, Teixeira had a 3.6 GPA at Georgia Tech in his BA, all while becoming an amazing athlete. This means to me:

1) He knows how to work hard
2) He knows how to manage his time
3) He is not dumb

That's not everything. Navy Seals know how to work hard, but that doesn't make them good politicians, per say.

But, he's no Beto or Gavin.

Interested in his policies.
It takes a special kind of brainwashed useful idiot to politically defend government fraud, waste, and abuse.

This bolded above is so true.

The political gap between Trump and Ross Perot is not huge. Some significant distinctions, but more similar than different, compared to other political parties.

But, Ross was an egghead who thought people should listen to him because you should believe he was the smartest guy in the room. People listen to Trump because he and his army of flag waving supporters will bury you if you don't.

Perot would have gotten eaten alive in 2016 just like he did in 1992, or the tea party did in the early 2000's. Sometimes, you need a bully.
