Scripture is fairly explicit about sexual acts outside of marriage (fair enough), but it was also pretty explicit about slavery.

The OT sets pragmatic guidelines around how slaves were to be treated. I don't think the Bible states that slavery is good or bad, it is just a natural human economic arrangement resulting from wars, famine, conflict, etc.

Most of human history was a world of scarcity and shortages of food, water, etc that we can't imagine today.

Had you been able to go back in time as earth's dictator and mandate 'NO SLAVERY', then the losers in wars and conquered peoples would have simply been killed and exited the gene pool. Very few of us would be here in that case.

With something like sexuality, bestiality, homosexuality etc it's completely different: clear moral stances are taken on those issues.

This is a common objection: "Well slavery was just part of the culture of that time. God didn't really like slavery, but he was just establishing rules around slavery and leading humanity down the path of eventually abolishing it".

So my first objection to that is fairly simple. HES GOD! If he can make specific rules about not eating certain kinds of foods, and not wearing certain kinds of fabrics, and not picking up sticks on the sabbath, etc. etc. how hard is it to say "Don't own other people as property"? And as I pointed out earlier, if the best rules he could put around slavery include "you can beat them as long as they don't die" that's already problematic.

Also, the bible could not have been more clear about condoning slavery.

Leviticus 25:45-47: "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can will them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life".

I don't think it can be much more clear than that. You can buy slaves from other nations and they are your property forever.

As you get more mature, the rules change, because you become an adult and can reason.

This is exactly my point. The teachings of the bible evolve as people do. That's precisely the viewpoint I try to argue with people who say Democrats' views on other topics as incompatible with the teachings of the Bible when we already agree that 'rules change' (to quote you).

This is why we can no longer compromise with you. In your world everything is fluid, there is nothing sacred, all norms, morals, and ethics are up for debate and can change to fit man's present day desires.

The teachings of the Bible do not change at all. The people reading it (like the far left nutjobs that hijack it) decide they are going to corrupt what it says and conform it to whatever abnormal practice they want to try and justify at the moment.

Same thing with the Constitution. Dems: It's a "living" document. No, it's not. It doesn't change unless a vast majority of federal and state representatives get on board to make a change. The hurdle for this is high, on purpose, to prevent the whims of a dumbass electorate (see California's state process) from passing crap that puts us into a corner.

It's simple. NONE of us are "better Christians" or worthy. Henceforth why we need God's free gift of the cross to save us.

There is an old saying - quit trying to change the Bible when the purpose of the Bible is to change you.

He's not a pastor, and never will be if that "seminary" is the only ordaining he gets. Paxton and Trump may have faults, but they also aren't purposely engaging in heresy and guiding people away from Christ's word as Talarico is and does.

Talarico is not a minister of the Gospel. That makes him worse than a "serial adulterer."

Since when did democrats start caring about morals? Is that something that came from polling?

Most voters in Texas are aware that no democrats follow the Bible. The party openly hates God, votes to kill babies, lies to taxpayers, and ignores our laws. Paxton is certainly not worse than Talarico.

You cannot be a Christian and call Christ a liar, which is basically what being pro-abortion is.

empty accusation, scripture gives no such commandment on the matter. calling others false christians over an issue He never addressed is itself closer to bearing false witness.

You should watch a video of an actual abortion.

talarico unsettles the christian right because he embodies a version of christianity they cannot control. his faith is not angry or punitive, it is compassionate and rooted in the gospel's command to love the least of these. that directly threatens the republican project of monopolizing and wielding religion as a weapon of resentment.

their cultural monopoly on "real christianity" is cracking, and the louder they squeal about talarico, the clearer it becomes that people are hungry for an alternative

What a crock this is. Lol

Did you know that Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin use CHIP's "Unborn Child / From-Conception-to-End-of-Pregnancy (FCEP)" option (i.e., they treat the unborn child as the CHIP beneficiary so prenatal care can be covered regardless of the mother's immigration status).

That means 2 interesting things

1. If the mother is an illegal immigrant- the fetus is considered the chip beneficiary

2. the federal government treats the fetus as a legal "individual" who can receive benefits.

Do tell us when God's work coincides with the Democrat Party's platform, as you seem to believe?

Does it coincide with knowingly allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal children to suffer under the yoke of sex trafficking and child labor in pursuit of open borders policies?

Does it meet up with a decision to tell a sniper to stand-down as a car bomber approaches the gate entrance of an airport manned by American military personnel?

Does it run hand-in-hand with shipping tons of supplies to Hamas in order to shore up political support domestically?

Does it connect with God's Word when it authorized abortion, for any reason, up to the last second of the third trimester of a pregnancy?

Let me guess: God's Word is absolutely whatever the Democrat Party says it is.

The whole point of Christianity is in fact gate keeping. Salvation is on one side of the fence and Christ is the gate. It is entirely opposed to the idea that everyone gets a pass and isn't judged. Ya, Christ does that judging, but make no mistake judging and condemnation are a huge part of Christianity.

Interesting that you should say that.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

Just like Allred, Beto, and Abortion Barbie before him, most of it is coming from out of state leftists in California, Illinois, and New York.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. "Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness."
James 3:1 ESV

"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
2 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV

"but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea."
Matthew 18:6 ESV

"If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul."
Ezekiel 33:8-9 ESV

Mr. Talarico should know that being a pastor comes with great responsibility and potential consequences.
