They didn't convert FSD purchasers to subscribers, they just got rid of the purchase option for new sales. Mine still works and I'm getting the latest updates and I haven't paid a dime since I bought it.

That sucks though. The last thing I want is another GD subscription and now I would need one for my car.

We will own nothing continues to progress.

Why would an insurance company give a **** if a car can go 250k miles?

The discount is because FSD is safer than a human, not because of vehicle longevity.

But it's not full self driving, that's just how Tesla markets it. It's level 2, a long way from fully autonomous. Hard to believe insurance companies would fall for that.

Level 2 simply means you are sitting behind the wheel, "paying attention". The car is making all the decisions: steering, braking and acceleration, no different than if you were not in the vehicle. The discount is based on the inscos own data and analysis of wrecks per miles driven. They inscos are not falling for anything except real data.

It's Full Self Driving (Supervised), that's how it's marketed by Tesla. You can mince words all you want but if you get into an accident while the thing is driving itself, you're at fault. Tesla has zero liability.

And? The data says it safer, thus the discount.
LOL, one company offering discounts in Arizona and soon Oregon. Then there's Tesla Insurance? They offer 10% discount if using FSD 50% of the time.

So, only a small number of offerings.

Oh yeah, well, it's only in two states man!!!! LOL. Move that goalpost.

Fact is, discounts are being given because the data shows that FSD is safer than a human.

My original post is factual despite your ramblings otherwise.

I'm not against EV's as much as I once was.

But until you can charge to full as fast as ICE, it's a non-starter for me as my primary vehicle. I need to fill up and go...

The other issue is styling. There are very few EVs I like the look of, that aren't on the $$$$ end of things.

Saw a fisker Karma on the road this morning. That thing is nice looking. WIsh they were still made.

Thread title here sums it up for me:

I will never buy an electric powered vehicle.

It is nice to see how much the opinion of this board has changed and much more informed people are regarding EV's since that thread started four years ago.

It's also interesting that those dead set against it have never owned or driven one for any length of time.

I absolutely love my Model 3. Best car I've ever owned.

Nissan Maxima
Honda Civic
Jeep Cherokee
Nissan 280Z
Toyota Celica
BMW 5 series
Jaguar XF
Porsche Boxster.
Ford F150
Nissan Titan Diesel

My current car with 100,000 miles is a 4 cylinder turbo diesel. The other two cars were 4 cylinder turbo's, but required 90 octane fuel. All three have/had manual transmissions. I've been fortunate to say the least.

How can you possibly compile data for that?

Can you break that into incidents/miles/individual?

Does the human side take a hit when the FSD hits a non-FSD?

I think they use VBA.

But seriously, the fact that you asked such a question.... LOL

And were you doing 5K oil changes instead of the dealer recommended 10K oil changes. My VW mechanic said that 10K were the worst thing to happen.

Hate to say it, but until recently I've never changed my oil on a timely basis. I can honestly say I would probably go past the 10K miles often before I changed the oil.

Having said that, the gasoline engine in my 6 speed, 4 cylinder turbo charged Jetta ate oil. I'd have to put a quart in about every two weeks. My illogical way of thinking was that I was semi-changing the oil given I was adding to it frequently.

Retrospectively, I've been way more fortunate with my VW's given my lack of attention to routine maintenance.

A couple weeks ago, I was in stop and go traffic in a school zone and the woman behind me in a Tesla was putting on makeup the entire time. When I got to work, I called my wife to tell her that she needed a Tesla.

It has internal cameras that watch for alertness and so forth. I suspect it would work if they weren't overly drunk.

Otherwise, a Cybercab is in order. Presumably they won't even have steering wheels. So it shouldn't matter if the drunk is passed out, it will proceed to the destination.

Supposedly you can just wear sunglasses and you'll never have to take the wheel at all in a 50 mile drive after a concert to your house.

Supposedly.

I'd never do this.

Ever.

Just supposedly.

You can even doze off for a few minutes.

Supposedly.

You may even wake up as it's pulling into your driveway.

Again supposedly.

No objection to them as long as the government doesn't mandate them and my taxes don't pay for them.

That's not saying they've driven more miles, just the frequency of wrecks.

Click on one of graphs on the webpage and it shows the numbers used for calculation. There is also a "Methodology" section with explanations on how they get the US average for miles driven per collision.

I haven't driven "drunk" but I have ordered another beer/wine etc. at a restaurant when I ordinarily would have passed on driving another vehicle.

I was at a Christmas party and a judge and I had a conversation about this. If you have the car in "chill" mode and it is not exceeding the speed limit and driving perfectly, what would be the probable cause to pull you over?

None.

However, if there is a checkpoint (no probable cause needed) or someone hits you (or the Tesla causes an unlikely accident) you're screwed.

Bottom line, don't drink and drive until it is truly FSD and then sit in the back seat!

If I'm wearing sunglasses and don't move my head for a few minutes, my Tesla goes nuts. It also goes nuts when I wear a baseball cap.

I didn't have my reading glasses one night, so I wore sunglasses with bifocals and Tesla went nuts - made me take over the vehicle.

You know what has an almost 100% chance of reaching 250 miles, just by changing the oil? Most Toyotas (until the new Tundras & Sequoias crapped the bed). We have a 2015 Sequoia with 180k miles and it looks and drives like most cars with 60k miles. Have another 2019 Sequoia pushing 90k. Both are parked outside and driven in Houston traffic daily. We stay up on the routine maintenance and have no doubt both will go to 250k. There will be nothing we have to replace on them that will ever cost as much as an EV battery. Further, EV resale values are terrible whereas resale values on older Toyotas are shockingly high.

So buy a used Tesla. And I'm not betting on a Toyota with hybrid/turbo being as bombproof (see tundra, like you said), and any Toyota I would want to drive costs more than a Tesla.

Because this all goes back to Democrats mandating EVs for the populace. If they had let the market work organically along the way, you would never have seen this much vitriol towards them.
