TexasRebel is just a troll. No one is really comparing FSD to the safest driver. I am sure there are safe drivers who have a slim chance to cause an accident. FSD is better than the majority of drivers and this is the point.

If he thinks he is better than any computer, I bet he has a bunch of computers around to make his life better. Laptop, microwave, dishwasher, calculator, phone. Hell his Ice car has a thousands of chips.

I bet he uses chips/computers in almost everything he does.

One thing to consider is my dad has early dementia and we finally had to take away the keys. My mom is old but can still drive. I think a lot of older people in next few years will buy these to help them get around with the FSD capability.

I know someone who uses the FSD 38% of the time going to Austin and back to Houston.

In 20 years I bet 50% or more of cars on road will be FSD.

Get me a gas vehicle with it, one I can top off anywhere in 5 minutes and I might consider it.

While this sounds like a good idea, you now have folks who cannot be left alone traveling distance. At this point it's not "mom wandered out the door, stop her before she reaches the sidewalk!" To, "Mom's car drove her to Amarillo and she got out of it somewhere along the way…"

I just bought a 2020 Tundra with 297,000 miles on it for $8000. Easily the nicest vehicle I've ever owned and just getting broken in. Sold my 07 Tundra with 265,000 on it for $6000. Was driving my F250 with 190,000 on it more than the 07 but the 20 is so nice I have been parking the F250 more. But my favorite vehicle in our fleet is my wife's 03 Excursion with 220,000 miles. I love driving it on the weekends.

No I won't be getting an EV just because they can go a lot of miles. I need something that can actually haul stuff and move 6 people. There is no EV currently that makes any sense for my family.

I have my Tesla as my daily driver. I also have a Nissan Titan TurboDiesel. Tows 12,000 pounds.

I had to drive my truck to the airport to pick up my neighbors due to four people with a lot of luggage. I had to drive the whole way there and back, like a damn savage.

I struggle with the sales pitch of "these cars are so amazing that you need to buy a second vehicle to do anything beyond move 2-3 people around". The cost savings kind of go out the window. I can pay for a lot of fuel with the money I save not buying the vehicle with no useful utility beyond what an ICE offers.

The technology will be able to track who was in the car, when the door opened, etc. etc.

I'd bet you can geofence them to a small area. And you could get alerts any time it is used.

The technology will include spike strips?!

I owned a Porsche as my daily driver before the Tesla. Not a very utilitarian vehicle. Still had a truck too. I've had a truck/car combo for the last 25 years. I still own the Porsche and my wife is mad I haven't sold it because I never drive it now. I need to sell it.

Just go buy a Subaru, dude. Careful. That makes you a Lesbian.

I bought the Tesla because I'm a nerd, not because I'm a tree hugger or an lolpoor.

So we're aligned that a Tesla is a good vehicle for people with disposable money to throw around for an extra car but wouldn't make sense or be economical for a large portion of people/families?

If yes, then why do all the fanbois need everyone else to want one so bad? I don't want a Porsche but I doubt you care about that.

Not a single owner here "needs" anyone else to own these.

The best use case for a Tesla is one combined with an ice vehicle in a two vehicle household where at least one member has a decent sized commute or does a lot of driving in urban/suburban areas.

This is laughable. Tesla owners aren't in "need" of charging infrastructure. It's not 2019 anymore. There's a Tesla supercharger everywhere you could possibly need one. And many of us just charge at home.

Your posting history on every Tesla thread indicates otherwise. The only thing I think you have pushed harder is experimental vaccines for kids.

I've never pushed for anyone to buy a Tesla. In fact, the only thing I've ever "pushed" as far as a vehicle purchase is the GM 3.0 diesels and the GM 2.7 turbo.

On EV threads, all I ever do is correct nonsense or misconceptions like someone saying it will cost $1 million to replace a battery after you own it for 2 years.

No one on this thread cares if you get a Tesla. No one on this thread is proposing to mandate that you get a Tesla. This thread is about the longevity and durability of a Tesla and the abilities of FSD.

Come on now. The fandom is ridiculous with you EVangelists. Constant smugness in the alleged superiority of Teslas and the vicious ganging up on anyone who points out the least negative thing about EVs, like sharks on chum.

You and all four of your buddies on here care deeply about people buying Teslas, no matter how much you downplay that.

Correcting bad takes and bad information isn't "smugness". You've spent 4 years obsessing over a vehicle you don't own and have said will never own and you have the gall to call anyone "evangelist".

The title of this thread is "a case for EVs, er Teslas."

Do you go to porn websites and complain "stop showing me nekkid ladies!"

No one is forcing you to get a Tesla or a Covid shot (anymore). If you are 50, you should get a Shingles shot, but no one is forcing you to get that either. Enjoy having Shingles.

As I said, I am not a TreeHugger, but a nerd. This car is absolutely amazing technology. Can you imagine going back to 1970 and showing people this car? It would blow their minds.

I love not having to go to gas stations to fill up. 5 seconds to plug it in at my garage and that's it.

The one thing I hate is the buttons on the steering wheel for turn signals rather than the stalk. Engineering fail on that one.

Yeah, I wasn't the only one. I saw a YouTube video where they installed an aftermarket stalk.

Did Teslas not signal for turns before now?

Is that part of the smugness I read about, y'all are too good to signal?
Teslag
How long do you want to ignore this user?

They always signaled, just varied method. For S and X there were two left/right arrow buttons on the steering wheel. If you wanted to turn right you'd press the right arrow button with your right thumb. Vice versa for left. It was cumbersome and dumb. The early Model 3 and Y's had a traditional stalk. Then they removed it for the 3/Y and went with the buttons. Dumb. In the last year or so they went back to a stalk on the 3/Y.
