We've all been transitioned to 1st Responders for management. What a sad existence the narcissistic, vapid middle managers have evolved to. Bring on AI to eliminate box checker duches.

I thin a lot of it is upper management completely forgetting where they came from and being oblivious to what their requests get turned into downstream.

Most people, looking to advance, will jump on it and take everything as a firedrill to show how good they are. It creates unsustainable processes, upper management get a bit of a power trip, mid management sacrifice their team's time/sanity getting jerked around.

No one likes to look at what it costs people to continually operate like that long term.

I've read some books about simplification and one of them touched on being able to tell people "No". Most companies, I would imagine, make people afraid to say it, which is part of the problem as well.

Yes I had a former boss that was the worst at saying no and managing workload. He burnt out, and it really affected his home life too. He was a terrible delegator of work so that didn't help anything either. The stuff he was doing was not sustainable and a lot of it was short sighted.

Wish you guys were hiring design engineers…

I've kicked off my search. It sucks. Move halfway across the country thinking I was getting a design role, and instead I'm a glorified project manager. I don't really want to make another major move, and certainly not as soon as this, but it certainly seems that to get back into a position like what I had (and loved) I'm going to have to.

I'm there now. I spent the last four years working a deal meticulously working with my partners to bring it to fruition only to have my boss come in the last year and commandeer the entire project. Sure, I got credit as a co-manager, but all the high profile engagements that took place occurred with my boss in the lead. When kudos were issued, they came across as "bosses's name and team." This was a deal that I originated and worked for three years before she ever came along and to have my contribution be relegated to some part of a "team" has really rubbed me the wrong way and caused a lot of distrust between me and my boss. This deal will be announced nationally and it really is a big deal that I nurtured and worked. Thankfully I'm at a point where I can retire today (52 years old) and just walk, but I'd like to get three more years before I pull the trigger on retirement and get my youngest out of high school first. It is a struggle to go back to work. We spent the last two weeks scouting where we might retire and we've settled on Coeur D'Alene, ID. It is calling my name and one bad day or interaction with my boss may just push me to take the plunge.

I just resolved this issue myself tonight. After 20 yrs of policing, I resigned tonight and will be taking a role in the local school district. I'm choosing to prioritize my family over career even with it meaning that I take a massive pay cut. Life's too short to spend it being miserable.
