We signed safety Jalen Mills today. Guessing it's insurance for CJ-CJ and Ward (forgot they still have him on the team right now).

Encouraged by the first drive for sure. Granted it was one drive, but it didn't look as laborious as last years offense. Hopefully we stay healthy and keep improving

Agree, it was the efficiency that stood out to me. I mean, first preseason game with mostly backups and they looked more efficient and executed better than most of the regular season games last year.

The Lions have been hit hard by injuries this year (as an Astros fan I have little sympathy).

https://www.prideofdetroit.com/nfl-open-threads-detroit-lions-community-questions-engagement-message-board-conversations/138880/discussion-are-the-detroit-lions-to-blame-for-their-injury-woes

Quote:

. . .
After a 2024 campaign marred by injuries up and down the roster, 2025 is not off to a better start. Defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike underwent season-ending shoulder surgery before the start of training camp. The Lions will be without young defensive backs Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and Dan Jackson for the 2025 campaign due to shoulder and leg injuries, respectively. Just days after the Lions' second preseason game, a trio of players landed on the injured reserve: offensive linemen Colby Sorsdal and Justin Herron, as well as tight end Kenny Yeboah.

Not even two weeks into August, the Lions are already looking at a depleted roster. Six players are out for the season, while players like Alim McNeill and Malcolm Rodriguez are likely to miss the start of the regular season. Sprinkle in question marks like Josh Paschal, Mekhi Wingo, and Miles Frazier, and the injury questions are stacking up.
. . .
When Sorsdal, Yeboah, and Herron were added to the injured reserve on Sunday, there were many immediate responses blaming aspects of the team in some way. Are the Lions playing too physically, especially in the preseason? Is the Lions' strength and conditioning team subpar for allowing all of these ailments to occur? Is general manager Brad Holmes to blame for acquiring injury-prone talent? Each of these points are worth discussing, sure, but blaming one as the cause of the Lions' injury woes is simply not fair nor realistic.

Sucks on the team level as people have been saying he would be a big contributor this year. Even worse on the human side after he worked back from last year's injury. Still remember how electric the stadium was in the playoffs against CLE when he scored

Damn, I feel so bad for the guy. To work that hard to come back and have a freak accident on the practice field.

That's really tough for BJ. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

But with that said this only creates more opportunity for Cade Stover. He showed flashes last season but I'm looking for him start eating into Dalton's reps.

I have a feeling TE is going to see an increased role in this offense.
