I got the JetBeam BC40 based on MSW's comments on this thread. Absolutely great light. It's not a pocket light... but it's significantly smaller than a 2 cell Maglite.

Great light for outdoor use at night... I've tried using it indoors for working in dark spots and it just puts out too much light.

Overall though... love it.

I like Eagletac 18650 batteries. They have increased their power in the newest generation, but they also cost a little more.

I mostly deal with this vendor exclusively:

Batteries: http://www.illuminationgear.com/BATTERIES-Rechargeable_c5.htm

Chargers: http://www.illuminationgear.com/Battery-CHARGERS-Testers_c2.htm

Besides Eagletac lithium ions, I like the AW brand. You can google them. Here is 1 vendor: http://www.lighthound.com/AW-18650-Protected-2900-mAh-Rechargeable-Lithium-Battery_p_3671.html

Initially they cost some $, but they can be recharged over and over. Think about how much two CR123 batteries cost. This takes the place of 2.

Also, they are less dangerous,a s it is just 1 cell. There are many stories of explosions and people hurt form using two primary 123 cells.

Do you know of a rechargeable light that is pocket size that produces 800+ lumens?

For spares, I like to keep a few 123's around since they have a long shelf life. I've been using these for a few years with great results, and $1 a piece:

I usually get my Solarforce stuff in a couple places based in TX:

You could use flashlight that has 2 rechargeable 123's and could easily produce close to 800 lumens.

http://www.foursevens.com/products/QT2L-X-AF
This flashlight can accept to 9V. Two RCR123's would give you max of 8.4V.

Also note that lumens and lumens perceived are a linear relationship. IIRC, based on how our eyes work, if you double the amount of lumens, you perceive it as an increase of only about 25% increase in light.

Getting 800 lumens at the emitter level and getting 800 actual out the front lumens is not necessarily the same thing.

The T20C2 MK II here: http://www.illuminationgear.com/EagleTac-T20C2-MKII-ETT20C2.htm

The T20 has 681 actual out the front lumens. It is a standard tactcal 2 cell light. It is pocketable, but the P20C2 MK II is a little smaller:

http://www.illuminationgear.com/EagleTac-P20C2-MKII-ETP20C2.htm

The P20 has 622 actual out the front lumens (850 at the emitter level). Between the two, with the reflector difference and size, I like the P20 more now.

Both of these lights will use rechargables. The T20 uses either 2 regular cells or one 18650 lithium ion. The P20 uses two regular cells or one 17650 lithium ion

I have several R123s. They do not last very long before they run out of juice. I mean, a very short time. Like 20 min total or so. I have a Lumapower that takes them. I finally took them out and used a bigger cell - because the light went out so fast on high. It just flickers once or twice and that is it. Then, if you want it o, you have to drop to medium.

I'm a Noxx convert. Less than $50 use AAA batteries and incredibly bright.

What would you recommend for an office light/truck light?

Ideally, something which could be used at a lower level, for general purposes, then switch to a high intensity light, w. a long throw for looking at something in the distance?

(If that's two different lights, I would understand.)

Also, any lights/batteries which would hold up to sitting more?
MisterShipWreck

Alkaline batteries are terrible for sitting in a car in hot and cold weather. Lithium AA batteries would be better - if you had to use a light that takes AA. but after replacing them 2 or 3 times - you'd just assume buy a rechargable 18650 (these are lithium ion).

Honestly - if you need real far throw - that Jetbeam BC40 mentioned earlier in the thread is still a goodie. It's cheaper now too.

If you just want a light that is in your car for emergencies, then hell, this $7 light I just mentioned above that is sold on Amazon is more than good enough (it was like $1 cheaper a couple of weeks ago): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CE1EFCM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was using an extra Lumapower Trust 2 in my car, but I switched it out to this Ultrafire I got off of Amazon. It has a adjustable head that can make a spotlight or a flood. I had another cheap chinese light that did this using AAA batteries a couple years back - but it wasn't that good. I am very satisfied with this light. Only negative is that when you turn it on and off, it doesn't come back at the setting you last left it. But, that's no big deal when you consider the price.

He ain't gone. I commented on one of his pistol selling threads the other day asking if he keeps a detailed report of every pistol he shoots because he knows exactly how many rounds were shot on the exact day.

Looking for something similar to the Solarforce L2P that is intrinsically safe. Pocket size and very bright. Any recs would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lol at all the spec talk on this thread.... no offense. I have enough flashlights at my house to land a small airplane. Most of them I "accidently" brought home from work. The best ones I've got say Streamlight 4AA on the side of them.

I'm fascinated by the recent 6V flashlights that can be charged by micro USB plug. I might have to buy the fenix version unless anyone can recommend a better one.

I've looked far and wide for a metal bodied intrinsically safe flashlight. What I learned is that companies only make them in polymers because if you drop a metal flashlight it could create a spark when it hits something. It could be done out of brass which is non sparking, but brass isn't very cheap.

Yes I have one. Think it is TK 30 0r 40? Actually I cant seem to find it so may be in market for another. Very high quality IMO. Uses 18350 rchargeable batts. Very good light for throw with some peripheral for pigs. Really strong out to 100yds or so. The one time I called them for help in selecting a light the guy was very helpful.

Don't laugh. A buddy gave me one of these and it's become one of my favorites. I think he paid $12, but I see them now for $5 ?? on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/J5-Tactical-Flashlight-Original-Bright/dp/B00S99G7YC

It's bright, uses one AA battery, and the beam can be focused.

bait- no those are decent. I go to Amazon and search for Cree AA flashlight and then order 3-4 at a time of $3 flashlights for dog walking and other stuff.

One of the Fenix UC lights (rechargable with a micro-USB charger) are what I am eye-balling to carry at work.

Best small single AA pocket light? I carry a Fenix E12, but I'd like something smaller.

Right now I carry the fenix LD11. I did get a flyer from battery junction today about a new light from jet beam, the MK1 that boasts some pretty good numbers and is only 3 1/4 inches long. It's a twisty, which isn't my preference, but for under $25 I'm going to give it a try.

I carry a Nightcore SRT6 daily, and love it. Fantastic flashlight. I also have a second one on my night stand. I love how the rotating dial lets you change the brightness from zero to max (and anywhere in between) by turning that dial.

Nightcore makes some nice lights, so that one should be very good too.
