This camne in handy tonight for halloween... great flood on this maglight drop in:

WTF!?? How did I get drug into this one? I don't think I've ever spent more than $15 for a flashlight and that was a 4D Maglite that was on sale.

I put flashlights and coolers in the same category. Useful. Good for their purpose, but virtually disposable. If I drop it, lose it, smash a dog or oafish idiot in the head with it, oh well. I'll get another one.

(Edit: that wasn't intended to be shot at MisterSW. Far be it from me to judge anyone else's hot button purchase. ...unless it's a black rifle. Then you're just an idiot.)

I own 3 Ryobi Tek4 flashlights. 2600 lumens, but small and lightweight. Waterproof as well. I've dropped it about 12 ft onto rock and it showed no effects. Plus rechargable batteries saves money on alkeline. Only downside is that batteries and charger are sold seperate.

I did some looking, and cannot find any real reviews of that Ryobi light. But, at that price point, there is NO way it is putting out 2600 lumens.... It's just not possible.....

I honestly don't see how it could even put out 1/2 of that... Not at that price point.

The SR90 costs like $450 and is rated at 2200 lumens. And, it doesn't actually put out that much, as it drops lumens immediately after turning it on as the heat builds up.

OK, seems that the lumen rating is likely mixed up with the 18v HID Ryobi....

If there were such a creature as a 2600 lumen LED for $20 and that small, I'd have 50 of them

On another tab, I see it's rated at 65 lumens. BIG difference :P

Wow had no clue there were so many out there.

Do you guys use the recharge batt's for the ones that use the camera style batt?

Still a great price for a light used for someone like Sean98: they are cheap, small, and you can stash them everywhere. I still have an old Browning Black Ice (9V Xenon) that I keep under my seat that I've used more times than I can count - healthy appetite for batteries, but I'm assuming they all do to some extent/

Well, I used to be tempted in picking up lights here and there - now I just cheaper lights against the basic L2 Solarforce with R2 drop in for $24.99. The emitter is rated at 300 lumens, but in real world usage, ya get about 220 lumens out the front. And, ya get a nicely done aluminum body for the light.

I have a couple of rechargable 123s for my two L2ms. And, I am about to order some 18650s and a charger... My M2XC4 uses four 123s at a time. That's $10 in batteries at 1 time. So, I plan to start using two 18650s to save some $

Have you found a good price on these anywhere?
MisterShipWreck

There are different prices for sure - but, if you do some reading - different brands last better than others.

I am buying the Eagletac brand for $9.99 each.

They are going in Eagltac flashlights for now - and some people have had trouble with other brands fitting. I have a friend who had to take the button top off of his (a different brand - I forget which) in order to make it work in his T20C2 Eagletac.

So, to avoid any possible issues, I just ordered the Eagletac brand.

It seems that Eagletac and AW have the best 18650s out of all the brands - for power output.

Ok, Thanks. What about chargers?

I ordered this for $18.99 http://www.illuminationgear.com/14343.html

A UltraFire WF-139 Li-Ion Charger... There are a few products on that page, but it is 1/2 way down the page.

I'm a cave diver and underwater photographer, so my idea of a light and yours are not in the same class. These are all backup lights to me. I take lights like these with me and plan never to use them. Our primary lights are larger canister style lights.

At any rate Intova has a new one out called the Ultra Nova. It uses 6 AAs and has an amazingly bright center spot. You might want to check that one out, too.

I believe that in some lights, ya have to remove the outer spring on the drop in to make it fit. Try that. Then it may fit. I have read that some people have had to do this - as there are about 20 surefire clones out there - and the drop ins don't always fit them all without taking that larger spring off (keep the small one on it, though).

As for the fusion 36 - I have heard that they go on forever. A friend of mine tested his - I forget the length of time, but it was many, many hours. It's definetly worth getting. There is no long distance throw, as you take out the reflector. But it's a massive amount of flood.

I used it for halloween when I took my son. It was perfect, and it lit up a large area ahead of us (he's only 3 and trips over curbs and stuff in people's yards - so I took the light)

Thanks, I'll have to check that out. Inova hasn't been using the latest tech, so while their lights are super tough, I've sorta given up on them. I'll have to find that one and read more about it.

I can't say how it compares to some of the others you have. I only have other dive lights to compare. What would you say is the brightest of the bunch? If it's waterproof to a couple hundred feet I might have to give it a go.
MisterShipWreck
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't dive with lights - I understand that's a whole different field of lights.

All of mine at waterproof, but I do not think any of the are rated for underwater diving. Would theyw ork? I don't know. I know some guys test waterproofness in pools or in the tub, but as long as mine stand up to some rain, it's good enough.

My M2XC4 is my brightest light - rated at 800 lumens. It was $149.00. But, I do not think it is dive proof

Thanks a lot, MSR. You went off and made me want some cool lights.

Placed the order today for a Fenix LD20 (2xAA), a Quark Preon-2 (2xAAA), and a Fenix LD01 (1xAAA), along with a bunch of Enerloop batteries, from Amazon. I have justified the purchase with the "researching Christmas gifts for the family members" rationale (it worked last year for utility tools). We'll see...

I buy the cheap 10 flashlights for 10 bucks anytime i see them at home depot. I think I'm up to 6 or so packs. Luckily that's only 60bucks. Seeing how expensive the really good ones are, I think I'll still with my quantity strategy.

Besides it's nice having a light in every drawer in the house.
