Awful tragedy. I was able to speak to my buddy briefly and offer words but that's all I can do at this point.

Continued prayers for these lost souls and their families. My family has been praying all weekend and following this thread. I have an 11 year old son and I simply couldn't imagine going through this as a parent. Lord please comfort these hurting hearts.

I hope all those families were notified before the camp posted this update. Praying for all the families involved. Such a heartbreaking time.

Does this mean they have now found all the bodies?
That is what I was wondering.
I heard this morning on local news that in addition to the 27, that 1 counselor and 10 campers are still missing from Mystic.

That was on the radio in KC.

Definitely a subdued Monday. Things I thought important....just don't seem as important today. Heart hurts for those suffering. I've been following this thread since the first page but didn't want to post and clutter in that critical first day since I had no stake in this but woke up today just feeling awful for my extended Aggie family here and everyone else in the path of this disaster.

Love you all and been praying nonstop for everyone.

I don't think that is correct (the numbers...not saying you didn't hear that). 27 total, 11 of that still missing.

This is where I'm at also. Been following and praying for good news.

The Fox 4 rainfall graphic going around showing the 3 trillion gallons I don't believe is correct. I think they did some funny math to be more sensational.

3 trillion gallons is equivalent to 9.2 million acre ft. Canyon lake at conservation pool is only about 350k acre ft of water storage and then flood pool is about 1m acre ft. Even using a really low runoff coefficient like 0.3 the reported 3 trillion gallons would be enough to fill the lake from empty to the top of the spillway 3 times and there's only been an 11ft rise total.

The real amount of rainfall over just the Guadalupe was probably more on the range of 5ish billion gallons.

Not all of the storm fed into the Guadalupe. A large amount also went to the Llano River, which would bypass Canyon.

I should find out pretty shortly if they are simply saying they are lost vs body found.

When we went to bed they were still just missing.

I mentioned before, but they took Blakely's mom's DNA when she finally got to Kerrville, but I don't think that's due to having an unidentified body, but more as "for future need."

Either way, I can remember my son coming home last year and saying how Blakely wanted to be with her Father. It may be much sooner than we all would want, but I know if it was her time, she's safe and happy with him now.

Quote:

Camp Mystic is grieving the loss of 27 campers and counselors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe river.

Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.

We have been in communication with local and state authorities who are tirelessly deploying extensive resources to search for our missing girls.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from community, first responders, and officials at every level.

We ask for your continued prayers, respect and privacy for each of our families affected. May the Lord continue to wrap His presence around all of us.

Am I reading this wrong? Indicates they are still searching. So, given the amount of time that's past Mystic is assuming all are deceased?

There are 27 that have been found and didn't make it. There are still 10 unaccounted for. Heartbreaking

This will get clarified, but I believe they are putting located and not located in the 27 here. And the writing suggests this is moving to the recovery stage.

Amazing dangerous work. I trained in New Braunfels with a swift water crew from Monterey, Mexico and heard they were here also.

I believe Texas County Reporter is doing a story now on first responders.

The news report was referencing the Guadalupe only and the wall of water that took out the camps.

Lake Travis has absorbed about 100b gallons over the last few days based on some rough approximation with its about 20ft rise and using a slightly reduced area VS the full pool area.

Gosh, this situation is still kicking my tail this morning. But, I'll tell you what, even though I've never been particularly sure of my faith or religion, somehow I know for an absolute certainty that those girls are in heaven with God. I know it as sure as I am standing here. They are not here on this planet with us anymore, but they are not really dead. They are living in heaven. I know it for a certainty.

God wastes nothing, including natural disasters, tragedy, and the evil of humans. He allows such things for this reason you expressed, to draw others to him. God bless you. Hang onto faith.

I would wonder why they'd assume anyone not found yet is dead. Yes, it's been 3+ days now, but you can survive for almost a week with no food. Water would obviously be an issue.

I would think they'd say # confirmed and still searching for the other 11....yes it seems pretty hopeless after 3+ days.

Thanks for all the prayers and support. I still have my peace and strength from the Lord. This is going to be a really tough week for all the families who lost loved ones so keep those prayers coming.

derm - I know you don't know me from the man in the moon, but over time you've become one of my favorite posters and I'm confident we would be great friends if we ever met. My wife and I have been praying and will continue to pray for you and all the families affected by this terrible tragedy. God be with you, my friend!

My wife has been involved with this type of recovery work before. She said we need to be prepared for the possibility that some may never be found.

Experience.....

Finding a live victim at this point would be truly miraculous.

However, miracles do happen.

Yep, I have had this incredible peace which only can be from the Holy Spirit.

And I firmly believe God will work this tragedy out for good.

I have been following and refreshing this thread non stop since it started just hoping for good news. I don't know DermDoc personally and have never met him but he impacted me tremendously through a PM years ago that I doubt he even remembers. I continue to hope and pray for his family and everyone else affected by this.

As a Christian who grew up attending church every weekend and through college, I haven't attended a regular service since Covid. Life is too busy with work and kids to get there it feels like. After seeing the strength of everyone directly impacted by this and watching Him work through those girls, I will be taking my family and three kids back every Sunday again. This isn't about me but I hope that it is a silver lining that is impacting others the same way and motivating them to put Christ back in the center of their lives.

Those are exactly what I've been praying for since this began. Using that word specifically in my petitions to the Lord.

I trust this group more than the internet, so posing this question here.

This is probably even too early but our employee group here in houston wants to help. We would be willing to collect gift cards, cash, or physical items. We just don't know who the best organization to donate to is at this point. We are a credit union so we can collect from our employees and members and potentially help many folks. Any direction would be appreciated.
