What the heck does the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) have anything to do with this?

It is a figure of speech, alluding to the apparent ho-hum nature in which the information was delivered.

Never have heard the VFW used as a figure of speech for being ho hum. Especially for what it represents….but ok.
Thanks for the reply sir.

You're welcome. Perhaps we can both now go on about our day as normal.

He isn't saying anything pejorative about the VFW. He's saying that they just got the news of around a hundred people missing suddenly becoming only three and it wasn't that exciting or interesting to them so they just went about their day. In this fictitious anecdote the next part of his day was to head over to the VFW for some brisket.

Funny would it be better if he said "you can't just post that and then head on down to Chili's for a triple dipper"

Same idea…

Didnt see capable dog handlers on the equipment list!. I carried around at least 10 different dogs and dog handlers on my buggy. Interesting folks to say the least. Some of the dogs are only capable of working 1 hr per day or 15 min at a time - but i think the handlers are the limiter.

Full disclosure: I am not boots on the ground. I have friends in the area due to diving, but I am nursing a 3 month old so did not sign up to SAR. I strictly follow them and a dog handler in the area.

If you know of a better way/list/group to support, I defer to you and your knowledge! I know that this supply list has been a hub for most K9s in the area. They have been getting equipment to anyone who needs it, rather than limiting to one group or organization.

But please, if there is a better group to support or a different list, I will happily switch my amazon to them!

My Cousin, in her most recent unpinned insta post, said that all NGOs were pulled. I know she is devastated, their job is not done.

https://www.instagram.com/alexundy?igsh=MW13d3BmYW9ub2d3dA==

Visit to see photos of her heroic horse LeVon. I'm sure without her horse, they wouldn't have been able to get closure for so many families so fast.

Here is a quote from the post, by Alex Underwood:
" NGO's have been pulled. We were able to bring so many loved ones home and were prepared to keep going. No one on Equine Response was ready to leave the scene.

Not only are so many of us changed forever by loss-we are changed by perspective given.

Thank You to everyone that donated.
Thank You to those that brought food. Thank You to those that physically showed up in my personal life so l could stay out there. Thank You mommy and daddy, for everything. Thank You!

To my sure footed golden boy 'LeVon' that took care of me. He didn't flinch when heavy machinery held objects over his head or when helicopters landed beside him. He led through deep water. He's worth his weight in gold. This horse is my hero.

We gather each other up.
We say, the cup is half yours and half mine.
We say, alone is the last place you will ever be.'

I admittedly know nothing about SAR, but I cannot for the life of me understand why they have not found Cile.

Understand - I am not speaking negatively about the searchers or their efforts. I am certain they are frustrated themselves, and are working tirelessly to bring her home.

But dang. Why can't they find her??

Have you seen some of the photos of the rescue efforts? Entire vehicles were enveloped by silt and debris. If someone got pinned under a vehicle or tree or something, then tons of silt formed around it, it would be very difficult to find and dig out.

Unfortunately, in floods, some are never found. Jonathan McComb's daughter, from the 2015 Wimberly flood was never found. The water creates a lot of debris or they are simply buried under all of the new gravel or silt that is now in the river.

I am hoping that the sonar technology, the AquaEye, that they are using is increasing chances of those buried to be found. It's fascinating technology. Before this, I saw only 4 departments had it. Hopefully the use is increasing recovery rates and the technology will get into more hands.

Logically, I understand. Emotionally, my momma heart aches for her parents.

Agreed. I'm amazed that the recovery rate has been so high this early. The volume of destruction is indescribable. Looking at onnex, everything looks different. Mounds of soil/rocks everywhere that weren't previously present. There is a finite number of quality HR dogs and they don't get great mileage in the heat.

Heartbreaking article about Mystic Camper Ellen. I've already read it several times since yesterday, includes pictures of her unopened letters home.

This. My neighbor is TTF2 and worked both Wimberly and this flood. Knowing the challenges they face, I've been amazed at the recovery on this one. But it is still gut-wrenching to think of Cile and her family
