Lake Travis up 12 feet overnight = Currently 650.16 and rising

https://hydromet.lcra.org/floodstatus#linksl

https://hydromet.lcra.org/

https://www.atxfloods.com/

Summary
Last Update: Jul 5 2025 10:36AM

LCRA opened multiple floodgates at Wirtz and Starcke dams overnight to release storm runoff flowing into Lake LBJ from the Llano River, and there is currently water on the spillway at Inks Dam due to rainfall over Inks Lake. The releases from Inks Dam, which creates Inks Lake, will pass through Wirtz Dam, which creates Lake LBJ, and Starcke Dam, which creates Lake Marble Falls into Lake Travis. Flows downstream of Inks, Wirtz and Starcke dams will be very fast and water levels will be much higher than usual. Please take action to protect people and property that may be affected.

LCRA anticipates holding the floodwater in Lake Travis, which is about 34 feet below full, and does not expect to open floodgates at Mansfield Dam, which forms Lake Travis.

See the charts below for more information about floodgate operations at a specific dam.
The floodgate operations are a response to heavy rains that fell late Thursday/early Friday over much of the Hill Country, causing a rise on many streams and tributaries. Please note that rain chances continue overnight, and conditions can change rapidly.
See the Hydromet for the latest real-time data on rainfall, streamflow and lake levels.

When flash flooding occurs, avoid unnecessary travel. If you must travel, don't drive into flooded roadways. Remember "Turn around, don't drown."

Unscheduled releases from the Highland Lakes dams may occur suddenly and unexpectedly at any time due to emergency hydroelectric generation or other reasons. The public should exercise caution and avoid being in the water near the dams at all times.

Big Sandy Creek/Jonetown

Small watershed, but rapid flow / wall of water headed that way:

I live in Cedar Park and went out and saw some flooded areas. North San Gabriel is way up and flooded but South San Gabriel is really up, nor far below Ronald Reagan bridge.

What the Big Sandy did is wild, as noted above it's a smaller watershed but change in height - again in middle of night - makes me fear for lives lost. It was so over 1431 at one point (not now)and pictures below are from near there.

Does not affect LCRA , but South San Gabriel :

We live in a neighborhood named Travisso, less than a 1/5 mile from where Big Sandy crosses 1431. This is what it looked like shortly before dawn:

Pretty crazy to see that - those creeks are usually 15-20 below 1431 and flow ankle deep.

Lake Travis almost up 15' so far (652.19) and will continue to rise. This is getting to be about like 2018 when it went up 1' per hour, but this time more rain in its on watershed. It also looks like they are slowing down releases from LBJ / Marble Falls

South San Gabriel River in Georgetown. River Ridge neighborhood off Leander Road. On a normal day is about a 1/4 mile downhill to the water.

More flood gate updates.

Water being released downstream of Lake Austin / Bastrop later today. Hopefully the storm dies down soon and does not continue going that direction.

This is 1431, completely washed out at Cow Creek Bridge and will require a lengthy repair to be passable I assume. I like to head out 1431 and up Cow Creek rd for a nice weekend drive, it's a beautiful canyon and road.

Any word on capacity level is of Lake Georgetown currently? Is that dam threatened?

Lake Georgetown has an emergency/overflow spillway on the south side of the dam. I saw a high volume of water go through there about 30 years ago. I doubt the dam is threatened.

Downstream will be though and has already been devastated by the South San Gabriel.

Just found this concerning Lake Georgetown:

Saturday, July 5, 2025
2:00:00 PM
Level is 4.01 feet
above full pool of 791.00
Change Since Yesterday: 14.26 Feet

We went thru Georgetown this am. Took Hwy 29 to Circleville, and on to Thorndale. Saw a bunch of RV's at the high school on east side of town(georgetown), seemed odd to me. Then we got to The San Gabriel river crossing, highest I have ever seen it there, and I grew up in the area. The RV park just downstream from there was completely, and I mean completely inundated. I guess a few folks got their RV's out, but looked to me that most of them did not

That video is amazing. 17:13 to 17:17 especially amazing how much the river increased in literally seconds to minutes. Even if you are aware, you can still be caught off guard and swept away.

Totals from past 72 hours

So far an 18 foot rise on Travis, appears steep increase is done but may creep up a bit further, and 7 feet on Buchanan - but it's still sharply increasing and may get around 1-2 more feet.

Yeah, if you were hiking down by the bottom of that once the water rolled in, you were likely cooked.

This is a crazy video, within a few minutes the water increase is almost not believable, I can see how people get caught, if you are not paying very close attention you could be swept away very fast, happens very quickly.

Yep, under two minutes from when it hit to when your car or a person would be swept away.

Sounds like the metro area dodged most of the heavy rain. Prayers for those with property damage.

Travis is up almost 20 feet and Buchanan almost 11 feet since Friday.

Almost 400,000 ac-ft (130 Billon Gallons) of runoff from the hill country. We dodged a bullet and glad the lakes were able to absorb the impact. (For additional context LCRA has bout the same water committed to its municipal customers every year)

Pretty typical after large rises in lake water due to flooding. The pedernales and dam releases, plus just normal runoff from fast moving water puts a lot of debris in the lake. I live on Travis, but won't risk my boat prop or hull (or a person in the water) to that stuff moving in the water.

I didn't think I'd come back to this thread, I thought our Austin area flooding was over as of yesterday. Then rain flared up in the Buchanan and Travis basins yesterday, and again today. And rain this morning in San Gabriel basin as well, with lakes Georgetown and Granger at above 100%.

Now imagine it in near pitch black darkness. That's what made this so deadly. During the day you can at least see what is going on and make a plan as you go to try to self rescue. At night it is far more difficult.
