I want to get another American Hat Co. straw hat, but not in huge rush. I seem to remember seeing them go on a big sale during winter a couple years ago but didn't need one at the time. Any suggestions on where and timing for best sale on them? Gracias.

Great question. I always wait until late winter, early spring like a fool.

Where are you located OP? There are excellent places to buy within 45 minutes of just about anywhere in the state. Catalina is pretty good if you're in Bryan.

DFW. Edit, I'm in Argyle area and I believe a couple years ago when I saw the sale it was in the Justin stores (in Justin ironically).

I hate how expensive straw hats have become. That's all I got to add.

I agree, which is why I started thread. It's crazy. Love that they're made locally, but damn it's crazy.

This is my recent hat purchase, I did swap the leather band for a horse hair one as I ended up not liking the variable width leather band.

Head up to NRS in Decatur. I'd bet late September/October will be when they go on sale. Theres always some coupons with their mailer as well or on the back of their catalog.

Not sure how far Garland is from you, but they have the Stetson/Resistol Outlet there, and they have some killer prices. I bought a Stetson buffalo felt for $70 last summer and there is nothing wrong with it at all. They had a ton of inventory in hundreds of styles last year. I know you said American Hat, but these are pretty nice as well.

Strongly disagree with this statement

Wouldn't be a texags thread otherwise!

Yeah it's harder to shape a summer hat than it is a felt. Most people do a terrible job. Catalena is excellent.

I agree that straw hat prices have gotten out of control.

I live in Denton. Have gotten great deals at the resistol factory outlet in garland, but it it's hit or miss.

NRS may have deals when thy have a sale, but I've never seen it, that place is ridiculously expensive.

The Justin outlet sometimes has good deals, but is again, hit or miss.

Ive begun buying a little lower quality straw hats, knowing I'll only get a year or two max out of them anyways.

The Hat store in Ft Worth is a good place to look.

Love NRS and that's where I want to go, but was wondering if/when retailers start clearing their shelves of straw (my guess is mid-to-late Fall) to make room for the felt. Hopefully there will be some deals.

You talking about Best Hat? Great place, but it's kind of a tourist/rich person spot that I doubt ever has any deals. They have a million hats though in a tiny ass building. Pretty impressive place.

Please don't walk around the the American Hat label on the outside if you are over 21.

Two springs ago (in May I think) I got an American 40x felt on sale there. Marked at $248 plus I had a $50 off when you spend $200 coupon from their mailer. Pretty good deal. They didn't have a lot on sale at that time, but they had some.

I'm there just about every week getting show feed so I'll keep an eye out or ask some folks. When I get my next mailer, I can drop the coupon in the mail to you if you want. I'll revive this thread if / when I get it.

I blame Yellowstone. Felts and straws have both gotten stupid expensive.

I see a ton of adults doing it. I like the meaning behind the Positive Times sticker, so I'll throw it on a yeti koozie or something but not the hat.

Yeah that's the place. And yes they have great deals in my experience. It's not exactly in the touristy part of town if you know what I'm saying. It's closer to the other side of the stock yards

Bought a Bangora hat this spring, $35 dollars and a great straw. Love it better than my Resistol Straw.

The Best Hat Store is owned by the same people that own American Hat. The husband sadly passed away a few years ago but the wife is still running the brand and the store.

Isn't the positive times sticker something he came up with?
