The last Cape Buffalo i shot was at the end of my barrel. It is a nightmare that never goes away. Camera man got the pics over my shoulder. Prayers up for the family.
Tell us more about the story. Caliber, shots, where he dropped, etc.
That picture is badass, but not a photo that I want to be in!
I was just sharing the terror. I really didn't want to take away from the tragedy of the OPs story. It brings us all down a notch and should pray hard for all hunters. The PH we use all over Africa has become part of the family and he lost his best friend to a cape buffalo. These are guys that have killed hundreds themselves and been on hundreds more hunts who know how and know what to expect..... and it still got em.
Cape buffalo hunting is a lot of fun on the wide open reserves of Tanzania. 490,000 acres no fences no roads no people no nuthin.... but a shot buffalo turns into da debill.....
Hunter made a bad shot it happens. So we stayed on him.... by the time this picture is taken that buffalo is shot three times with a 470 N.E., three times with a 450 N. E., and I dropped him with the 416 very literally at the end of my barrel. He fell at my feet, hit my legs, and I got live buffalo blood on me.
Camera men are lunatics. When that monster charged i could hear my cameraman "oh yea! Oh yea!" As he is stepping forward to get the best shots. And right after this pic he stepped in front of me. I grabbed him by the horse collar and threw him down behind me, raised my gun and the buff was on me. I was waiting till the people in front of me cleared just like you would pheasant hunting or duck hunting waiting for a clear shot....then my cameraman man presented himself in my sight line so I had to throw him aside and reset.
The skull has three holes in it.... absolutely insane that that buff kept coming. Cape buffalo even have i big bone in the middle of their heart. But only one head shot counted....luckily. Not cool at all absolutely terrifying. Hit your knees and pray thru your tears kind of terrifying thanking God to get to see the things you love again.
