Yeah I made the mistake of trying to go to HEB and get something routine. I turned around and got the f out. Can't believe how dumb people are. It's gonna freeze for a few hours 2-3 days from now.

During the early part of COVID, I remember going to HEB and it looked like it was 3 weeks after a nuclear strike.

Meanwhile, the Fiesta 1 mile away had everything.

99 Ranch was totally normal yesterday too.

Soooo, fustercluck.

Half the Houston population is from the global south where their biological evolution didn't include planning for cold weather so it makes sense.

HISD just announced as the did the courts.

as someone whose primary passion is not going places or doing things, a day or two of "woah, don't go out on the roads" is pretty sweet. even if it's all a lie.

I feel this so deeply.

My work has said we aren't allowed to leave the boats when we get to the dock because they are worried we won't be able to get home. First time in 4 years I won't be able to just leave the second the gangway is down.

In Amarillo, waking up to snow on the ground was not a guarantee of school cancellation. Always had to wait on pins and needles for that damn thing to scroll my school.

Things changed in our district (Tomball) after (I think it was) the tax day floods. Some buses full of kids couldn't make it through the flooded streets, and the kids wound up spending the night in a school gym. District was totally caught off guard, communication with parents was bad, it made the news, and now TISD is one of the first to cancel at the hint of bad weather.

Back in 2005, when a lot of folks evacuated for Rita, my family went to Dallas and my co-worker and his family went to Austin. After the storm came through on Saturday morning and in wake of the horrible evacuation traffic, Mayor White announced at a press conference that people should come back to the Houston area in waves.

Last name A-D was to come back on Monday, etc all the way through the end of the alphabet coming back on Friday. We drove back home on that Saturday, the day of the announcement, and I was at work on Monday morning. There were no traffic issues coming back to Houston.

My co-worker had a last name at the end of the alphabet and called in saying he was not driving home until Friday as per the Mayor's announcement and wouldn't be back at work until the following Monday, nine days after the storm.

Meanwhile, the company gave bonuses to those the came in that week. Co-worker was mad as a hornet.

By the way, I would not have evacuated except for the two New Orleans kids we had living with us. Remember, this was after Katrina and people were scared to death of another big storm. Those kids' parents called and were begging us to evacuate their kids, so we acquiesced.

Houston had very little damage. Thoughts and prayers to the residents of the Golden Triangle and Lake Charles.

Social media has given the Karen's a platform to ***** and moan and criticize the decision makers. The decision makers issue their decree ahead of time to placate the vocal minority. Gotta be safe.

Tempted to roll the dice and wait until after the rain ends on Sunday morning to wrap the pipe and backflow preventer since the hard freeze is likely not occurring until Sunday night.

can you not isolate and drain the back flow preventer through the petcocks?

The 1 to 2-in water left between the isolation valve and the test cock has cracked the iso valve before. A low of 28-29 degF shouldn't be much of an issue if I block the wind from blowing around the pipes. The Sunday night lows will be an issue, and would rather the wraps be dry as possible

To add to above, there isn't a valve between the water supply and the iso valve at the BFP (looked and have never found one), so pressurized water stays on the bottom side of the valve and I can't use the lower test cock to clear out the entire BFP with an air compressor.

Hey Rodney, huge thank you for the lesson that most five year olds already understand.

Maybe next week he can tweet instructions on how to tie your shoelaces and the importance of being a big boy and not crying when you get a boo boo.

Ellis presides over debatably the most dangerous parts of the county. Which means his constituents are violent and we know violence largely correlates to low intelligence.

Given that the people of Precinct 1 are largely dumb and violent, the twitter post makes sense.

And when your school district's letter came up, but then they skipped to the school district with the next letter, it was a dagger to the heart.

I don't understand all the hate and ridicule on this thread. I get that it's TexAgs and full of just ****ty posters, but why do people care if others don't feel comfortable out and about in the upcoming weather? Some people enjoy having an excuse to bunker up for a weekend, not needing to go anywhere. Just seems a weird thing to flex about.

Deciding Friday before lunch to close schools and daycares on Monday is ridiculous. We didnt use to do this. We used to wait until the weather was actually bad before deciding that we needed to shut down. That's what I'm talking about. By all means hunker down and stay inside and watch some movies, I'm doing the same thing. Its just dumb that people act like the whole weekend needs to be canceled and cancel Monday as well because the roads might be rough on Sunday.
