Is anyone using this, do you feel the loss of privacy is worth the reduction in premiums?

I'm considering signing up for it, but would appreciate some input.

My son used one from another carrier...and I eventually removed it.

It beeps for hard stops as he just stopped normally. It would beep at him for excessive acceleration when he was getting on the highway. His rating was awful, and him and I were driving the car in a very safe/normal manner.

He had been complaining, but I thought he was just being a bad/aggressive driver. I was shocked at how ridiculous it was when I rode with him, or drove his car.

So in my experience, it serves to eventually raise your rates, not lower them.

I've never put one of these on my car, I don't want to lose my insurability.

I tried the State Farm version briefly. As posted above, I found it to be wildly inaccurate in its grading of driving-not in my favor of course.

I was not a fan of the idea going into it for all the typical reasons, but thought the savings might justify it.

But when I saw how inaccurate it was, my contrary side raised up and I couldn't take it anymore. So I took it out. The discount wasn't large enough to make me keep it.

Yeah it's definitely going to **** you for keeping pace with traffic on any major highway, which is the safest option even if it means going 5-10 over.

Honestly, it was more the hard stops and hard corners that bothered me. I had really edited my driving to try and be good. They were way off.

I would note that I haven't had the sensor active for years and I believe I am still getting the discount. I periodically get emails saying things the last warning to reconnect the sensor. Which I ignore. YMMV but might be worth having for a month then taking it out to see how long they will discount.

I use it,, get 20-25 percent off every renewal

It doesn't ding you for speeding, or acceleration

It won't raise your rates, it'll only potentially lower them

I have to hit the brakes pretty hard for it to ding me for that

I get annoyed that hands free phone calls count as events

But if there is an event you can just tell the app that you were a passenger, and it won't count against your score

Sounds like you already may have but read the license agreement. I was going to do Allstate's app for the 50 drives or whatever it needs but they very plainly say they will access all of your device's emails to establish your digital footprint and there is no way to opt out. But don't worry, they don't actually read the content of the email. That was a hard no for me.

Yeah that'd be a hard no, and time to change insurance companies. wtf is a digital footprint based on your emails, and how would that affect your insurance rates? ridiculous

Pretty sure SF did that too. I also had issue when both my wife and I were in the car together with both apps think we were driving.

Hard no for me at this point.

Another "No" vote from me. I had the same push from Travelers for a similar app - was only going to save $170-175 per year and I didn't feel like the savings were worth the loss of privacy.

And for the earlier comment that it can only lower your rates, not raise them - how would one know? Say you have that app and your insurance premium goes up 20% the following year - how would you know how much of that was due to inflation/regional claims/etc., and how much was from the data they took off the app?
