We just staggered past UTSA in a game where our "explosive offense" looked more like a soggy box of firecrackers. Now comes Utah State, and history tells us this is exactly where we find new ways to embarrass ourselves… in our own house.

Real talk...
While Texas A&M is a heavy favorite (often listed with 30-point spreads or more) and ESPN projects our win probability at 96.2%, football isn't played on projections. Underestimating Utah State's experience, explosiveness, or in-game adjustment can be costly for us at Kyle Field especially early in the season.

Celestially speaking...
The Utah State Aggies are brining down actual clippings from Merlin Olsen's beard, as they invoke the power of 1/4th of the "Fearsome Foursome". That will be all they'll need, along with our inability to stop the run.

Why Utah State Wins This Game:

  • Altitude Advantage Travels
Utah State may be leaving Logan, but the thin-air training sticks. Science shows that teams who practice above 4,500 feet gain an automatic +10 stamina rating when playing below 338' above sea level. Meanwhile, our guys got winded walking out of the tunnel last week.
  • Kyle Field = Kyle Curse
You'd think 100,000+ screaming Aggies would be an advantage. Instead, it's the perfect recipe for Utah State to come in, play loose, and hit us with three gadget plays we'll never see coming. Kyle Field is where ranked A&M teams go to die against SW Louisiana, Arkansas State, Appalachian State and now, apparently, Utah State.
  • Aggie vs. Aggie
The worst matchup in sports: Aggies vs. Aggies. Texas A&M is 0-all of them, when facing another Aggie mascot while coming off a "too close" win to a team with with a bird mascot. We'll lose the turnover battle by 4, and the true-blue Aggies will plant their pitchfork flag at midfield while we debate whether Yell Practice needs to be "modernized."
  • Statistical Certainty...
According to totally real advanced metrics:
  • Utah State has a 72% chance of scoring first on a trick play.
  • A&M has a 91% chance of missing at least one field goal shorter than 40 yards.
  • Utah State's punter is projected to average 67 yards per kick with 3 inside the A&M 2-yard line (if they punt at all)
  • Probability of A&M fans posting "Fire Everybody" threads by halftime: 106%.
Overconfidence Hangover
  • Our players still think "barely beating UTSA" counts as momentum. Utah State walks into Kyle with nothing to lose, and that's always bad news for an A&M team allergic to achieving preseason expectations.
History lesson: We invent new ways to lose.

It would be a much closer match if you compared A&M creamery Ice cream with Utah State's Aggie Ice cream. Both are excellent!

Another stellar effort. So far I feel like Raptor's comeback is better than the original . Was disappointed there is no mention of the "Lightly Inconveniencing Committee" tho.

Just for sake of accuracy, we never lost to SW LA at Kyle Field.

8% of men are blue-green color blind which means at least one of our defenders won't see anyone on their offense at all. As if the RB wheel route hasn't been hard enough for us to defend...

The SW LA game might as well have been played at Kyle. Losing to that team here, there, or in any stadium is grounds for firing your head coach before the team returns to College Station.
