As much as I love collies, they seem to have their share of health issues (like a lot of pure breeds). Since the first Lady Rev was a mutt - and a rescue at that - how cool would it be to go back to our roots? I mean we did win our only natty when a rescue mutt was our mascot…

I very much agree that we should sing the first verse but it was written 20 years after what's now the second verse. No roots there.
The first verse was added after the fact, was soundly rejected by the students, and has never been sung.

Agreed on breed but Red Lacy I think has better markings. I currently have a (tripod) Red Lacy, best dog I have ever had (and have had labs, beagles and shepherds).
You could easily find a mutt that looks like a collie

This is the problem. A mutt would be great for several reasons:
- Hybrid vigor
- Great PR for rescuing a dog from the pound over spending thousands on a pure bred
- Return to the original Miss Rev tradition.
But you can't brand an ever changing dog. The collie is branded now and millions have been spent doing that. I don't see the higher ups ever walking that back.

I actually don't think this would be quite that big of a deal. A&M easily has the resources to produce and trademark a bespoke mark/likeness for each new Reveille every decade or so, and I think it would pay for itself in merch.
I vote for dachshunds. Though they may be small, they are ferocious.

If I had my say it would be a Belgian Malanois. Smartest and most fearless damn breed on the planet. Just like we want our football team. In fact, it's the primary dog the Navy Seals use. They took one with them when they took out bin Laden. Those damn dogs are even trained to parachute out of aircraft!

They do the same with German Shepherds as well. They use both breeds.
