Mike Elko is smart as a whip. He has already invested 5 1/2 years of his life in this program and at 7-0 it's building in the right direction that he was hired for. His vast experience, intelligence, toughness and attention to detail displays confidence that he will make us into a top championship contender. Mike knows Texas A&M with the 12th Man will turn into Santa Clause if he succeeds. Therefore, common sense tells you Mike isn't going anywhere soon to start all over ?

Yes.

Elko has no special and extra love for A&M, it is just a job for him. He isn't an Aggie.

However!

If he succeeds here, he will reach legendary stratospheric status. He won't get this opportunity elsewhere. He seems to have righted the ship and just a few more things have to happen before something concrete comes out like a good bowl win or even the MNC.

He won't leave. Not because he loves us, but because he is at the cusp of something big. Money will come to him. A&M is rich and is a name brand school. Stupid to leave and get into a mess like what our BB coach did going to Kentucky and getting fired.

You got to admit it's pretty wild we only pay Elko like $7m. I understand and agree we shouldn't have a big buyout and that we should have incentives, but it's BIZARRE Elko isn't paid at least $9m or $10m a year after this season.

Maybe, but at the time we hired him he had been a HC for 2 years at Duke. He did pretty well at Duke, but didn't exactly set the world on fire. He accepted the offer and signed the contract. If he makes the playoffs this year and wins a game or two (or better),there are some pretty big incentives. Maybe you re-negotiate his contract if he makes noise in the playoffs. But I wouldn't ever extend to more than 5 yrs.

[FRAN, SHERM, SUMLIN, JIMBO] won't leave. Not because he loves us, but because he is at the cusp of something big. Money will come to him. A&M is rich and is a name brand school. Stupid to leave and get into a mess like what our BB coach did going to Kentucky and getting fired.

This is all too familiar.
