John Mackovic in 1997 is my answer. But that was at the end of the year. I do not recall any coach being fired in the middle of the season after losing to us.

We probably at least contributed to Napier's firing this year.

MSU has the ultimate honor of losing to an opponent and getting the opposing coach fired.

We helped get Curley Hallman fired in 94, but it wasn't so quickly.

It's a new world now wrt firing coaches mid-season. Until the last couple of years it was pretty rare.

We got Napier fired too. They just wanted to wait until the bye week to do so. Brian Kelly got fired immediately because this was the bye week. We get to claim both scalps though. We might have a chance at Sark's too, if we play it right.

If I recall correctly, both Jimbo and MS State's coach were fired after the same game, where we beat them by 30+ points.

I dont consider it a badge of honor if a school fires their coach for losing to us.

You dont fire your coach for losing to a program you expect to be competitive or better. You fire a coach for losing to a program you perceive to be worse off than you.

Firing Kelly, also is a signal that LSU does not see us as equals. They see us as we should have a lesser program and Kelly let us get the best of them.

It wasn't just because of us. Vandy broke them.

Franklin was fired for losing to Northwestern even though Northwestern actually has a winning record so far this year.

I think its more of the way it happened. This was a timing thing where we got them at the right time and delivered the KO punch but seems like Kelly was never a great fit so he had a short leash to begin with.

I do think its a mistake though cause who are they going to get that is a better coach? You do have to get rid of the cancer but I think LSU is definitely on a downward trend.

Didn't sip fire Fred Akers after losing to us?

Also, Mack got fired when the Ags had the great first season in the SEC. They needed to hire a black coach like A&M.

They could have lived thru losing to us. But it was apparent that we were way better than them. Losing to Vandy was the ultimate issue.

I'm not looking for them to compliment us. I am laughing at them essentially torching their own program. To be clear, this is basically the same thing Auburn did when they fired Gus Malzahn. The sport has changed around them and a coach that is winning more than he should at their school isn't keeping up with their vision of what their program used to be.

They can think we are a lesser program all they want. I am pretty sure Auburn did as well. It doesn't change the damage they just did by firing a coach for $53M who went 34-14 (71%). I'm going to go out on a (really sturdy) limb and say their next coach doesn't have a 71% win/loss percentage if he makes it 3.5 year.

we don't' want Sark to leave tu. Him keeping Arch as the starter is about as dumb as it gets so let us let him keep making those kinds of mistakes.

Yes, they are on the list. So is Ed Price. But I was asking for the most recently fired coach after losing to us.

Meh, there was already a growing unease about Kelly in Baton Rouge. The lack of cultural fit was apparent.

The pieces were in place for them to have a good season.

And everything went backwards.

He lost his job after the loss to Vandy. A&M was his chance to save it.

Instead...well...it went down the way it did. And that was that.

(Not unlike some A&M seasons)

It's so rare to have a coach retire.

They get fired or get stolen almost all the time.

I do prefer where we are in the cycle, and here's to hoping Elko becomes one of the rare ones for us in about 15 year.

I think he was fired based on the fact we absolutely emptied out Death Valley of all traces of LSU fans; except the ones chanting FIRE KELLY!

And then basically had a midnight yell in their stadium.

And for once in my life I'll say nice things about ESPN for showing it all on the broadcast.

He got fired because we broke their program!

I cannot think of the last time a visitor team emptied out a stadium like we just did...

LSU has so far broken a contract and fired a coach due to us. I don't think they handle losing to us very well. It's glorious.

Are students making t-shirts with the scalp count yet?

Could do one with Napier and Kelly's faces x'd out, and Beamer and Sark waiting.

I'd say Elko's potential to become a legacy coach for TAMU is better than most.

That said, it's really tough to convince someone to ride out the College Station climate year over year compared to many other places in the country. Duke could have ponied up to keep him I think at the time, but it didn't take much convincing for him to leave and Duke isn't exactly known for having high expectations for their football program like we are. Research Triangle in NC is a very nice area, so the fact the family made the move clearly means they do have a soft spot for College Station, however miserable the climate may be at times.

Love CS, but the only thing it has going for it compared to many other desirable P4 HC jobs is cost of living, and that doesn't mean as much for a HC making the kind of money they make anyway.

And for as good a fanbase as we are, we are pretty damn pessimistic, and who can blame us up until this year tbh. But we are passionate, to his point on bussin with the boys today, and he seems to respect that.

So yeah, if we step up and give his family generational wealth, I think he might ride out A&M until he's ready to retire
