I can agree with a lot of what the two officials have said in response to my post. I should clarify I'm referring to high school, ECNL/MLS Next matches, not rec with youth officials. My point still remains that fan decorum is based on the same emotions as at Kyle field, reed arena, Ellis field and bluebell park. I guarantee that soccer officials attend those games as fans and are plenty vocal with their displeasure in what they deem as a bad call. If you're into the game and care about the outcome, how do you not? But both of you got personal and snarky in your response proving my exact point. And to say as a fan we know nothing about the game or rules is silly.

High school, ECNL, and MLS Next all have youth officials also.

They're all the same referees. Refs working HS matches on Friday night have ECNL & MLS Next matches on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. It's the same pool. I had a college match on Saturday and have a Regional Final tomorrow. It's literally the same referees.

And there's a MAJOR difference between yelling at professional or college players/officials vs. youth referees. Everyone on that field are paid professionals, even the college players, these days. Kyle Field is not the same as your city soccer park. If you want to yell there, that's fine with me. But your local U12 game has only 1 person making a living on that game. That's your coach. And that's only part-time for some of them. No player or referee is making a living on that game. There's no reason to take your weekly frustrations out on anyone there except your coach. But you'd never do that because that person has control over your kids' playing time.

Sorry for the derail. Let's move on to discussing upcoming regional finals

Did you all see the Seven Lakes game winner (girls) against Ridgepoint made the Sportscenter Top 10 Plays of the Day? Number 4! Always happy to see girls soccer get some love. We had club teammates on both sides. Heartbreaking way to lose a game.

Americas head coach Jair Olivares was suspended for one match, Monday's match, due to having an illegal team workout on Sunday, which is not allowed by UIL rules except in certain circumstances approved by the UIL. Olivares is expected to be with the team for the next game.
Americas High School is moving on to the State Semis after winning yesterday without their coach.

I can't think of a sport where in-game coaching means less than in the beautiful game.

Maybe but I've seen plenty of coaches change a game with their decisions.

Seven Lakes girls move on and the boys will probably lose to Elsik as predicted.

Elsik beats Seven Lakes 5-1 but the game was WAY closer than the score. Elsik scored two in the last five minutes.

My two daughters have played their last high school games. The younger is graduating a full year early and headed to college next fall. There are many positives and negatives about high school soccer but both my girls really enjoyed their time (as limited as it was) playing high school soccer.

For those that won't be at the State Tournament on April 12th, head out to Shell Energy Stadium and watch the older one play vs the Dash. She's started the year with a goal and a couple assists and I am hoping she can keep contributing.

For those playing in Georgetown that weekend, good luck.

That's pretty cool. I bet the Southlake coaches aren't fans of your kids leaving school so early.

The hard part was the number of HS games they missed. The older one ended up only playing in 43 matches over her two years which included 9 playoff games (she missed three included the regional finals loss). She ended with 81 goals and 41 assists in those 43 matches and never lost a high school game. The younger one played in 61 matches over three years and left as the all-time leading goal scorer (92) and points (2G+A)(229) for the school. It was fun watching them play together for one year and I hope they get a chance to play on the same team again at some point in the future.

One should be a senior this year and the other a junior. It's crazy how much has changed and the various pathways since we were in school.

Your oldest plays for Angel City, right?
What are your youngest's plans? I doubt I get to ref her in college (if she's signed). I'm just about done with on-field officiating.

She committed to TCU and will report there this summer. We sent them to A&M soccer camps growing up but neither ended up where their mom and dad both have degrees. The older was committed to UNC before going pro for Angel City FC. I'm happy the younger is going to TCU because our travel schedule is already nuts and being close to home helps it all work out a little nicer than elsewhere. Her other top choices were either west coast or east coast. I just finished booking flights and I have 20 round trips scheduled to see one or the other play between now and November.

Playing now. Getting out played and out matched. Down 0-3 to Wimberley right now. But they still accomplished a lot. Parents pushing for more investment and support from the district from this success.
