I was standing near the corner of the field where we were running out the clock after the goal. I'll give credit to Clark and Diaz for being physical with all the pushing and shoving.
Looked like Hoang, Lavender and Wilson were not in uniform. Wilson had a wrap around her left elbow but her arm was not in a sling like it was Thursday.

24-8 on shots, 9-1 on shots on goal, 13-3 on corners. Lamar had 2 chances to score that i remember and both were sort of just longer shots that hit the crossbar (Lamar coach kept yelling at his team to shot high from distance against our goalie). We gave the ball away too much and need to find better ways to score for sure. But man that was a pretty assist from Patterson (perfectly timed and weighted) and nice finish by Buchanan. As a Senior, Jernigan can't get that red card when we are up a player and it was feeling like just a matter of time before we scored. The red card gave them some life, but they still didn't really have good changes. Would've loved to see a 5-0 win like last year, but will take the W and move on. BTW, last year's stats in the 5-0 win: 25-6 shots, 11-3 shots on goal, 6-0 on corners..

lamar hit the crossbar 2x off of shots how is that not a shot on goal?

stat keeping in soccer is bs -

please someone explain how Diaz got an assist on the goal as well

Diaz 100% should get an assist on the goal. It would be bewildering if she did not receive one.

The woodwork is considered a boundary of the goal and therefore not officially part of the goal itself. So, if the ball was not going to end up in the net, it isn't a shot on goal by definition. Players need to hit the net to score a goal. Now, a ball could hit the bottom of the goal and be going into the net and be a shot on pgoal. It all depends on where the ball is going after it hits the wood.

so if it hits the bar and bounces in it's a shot on goal, but if it hits the bare and bounces out it's not a shot on goal

it it hits the bar and bounces on the goal line inside the goal it's not a shot

just silly

"Diaz 100% should get an assist on the goal. It would be bewildering if she did not receive one."

and how does Diaz get an assist on this

After many attempts to score a goal from either team, the Aggies finally broke through in the 87th minute with a game-winning flick off the foot of Buchanan.

"Well, I think I like curved my run, and me and Hattie (Patterson) had a good connection, and she played the ball over the top of my run, and I think because they were steps so high, there was space in between, and so I just gritted it out, ran and found a gap and just tapped it in," Buchanan said.

That is accurate. They aren't my rules, but you quote them accurately above.

Glad to see the girls get the win, but you can see the talent level is not what it needs to be to play in the SEC along with a coach whose time has passed. We lose girls to P4 conferences that are starting and we mostly pick up girls who are looking for their big break to play in the SEC. After what I watched last night it's hard to see this team even making the SEC tournament.

I agree. We will most likely be favored in 1 conference game, 2 at the most. And we'll probably have an interim coach by that game lol. That's also because this will be a down year for the conference. People are saying this will be the weakest the conference has been in awhile.

If I had a choice I'd take the 2014 team over the 2016 team. In either case, both would be SO much better than what we have now.

"The ref was looking for something to even it out" in regards to why Jernigan got the red card

When asked about how he gameplaned for #13 Sofia Wilby's (clearly their best player) "we didn't game plan for her"

Ladies and gentleman, the highest paid coach in Women's NCAA Division 1 Soccer

This statement is hilarious. Diaz is the player I remember from Tulsa. Feisty and plays with a chip on her shoulder; some would call it an attitude, but, generally, tends to rub people the wrong way during games. Like the instigator on a hockey team almost.

Diaz probably should've gotten a red on that one play where the Lamar player ended up getting ejected. Several posters saw that on the first page. Grabbed the Lamar player by the arm and slung her down to the ground. Lamar player retaliated by hitting Diaz. Both should've gotten reds.

Jernigan should be a red card also. Being unbiased, if an A&M defender suffered a foul like that, we'd all be calling for a red card on the other team. Accidental or not, it's a red. How G can claim the ref wanted to "even it out" is beyond me cuz A&M should've been down 2 players to Lamar's 1.

It's gonna be a long season fellas. When the coach is blaming the ref in game #2 when you've outshot a lower-level team 22-9...... it's gonna be harder to find excuses like the ref for the next 15 games too.

The initial Diaz exchange pretty clearly went both ways as both were grabbing/pulling and I would never think of it as a red card for either side. I think half of the corner kicks taken have grabbing/pulling that could be called a foul, but very rarely a red card. But then the Lamar player took a swing (slap) that connected and that is a red 100% of the time. The ref called it on the field and even reviewed using var to come to the same conclusion she did on the field. After looking at it on var for a very long time, she specifically reconfirmed the yellow and the red, explaining her reasoning to the sidelines.

Taylor's red was a good call as she was late and studs up. Really unfortunate at that point in the game, but also should be red 100% of the time. I am not sure if the Lamar player came back on later in the game, but hope she is ok. Perfect example of why var is in place as the ref didn't see it on the field or even call a foul, but did on var. I was at the game and didn't see it during the run of play either. Later in that same response G said that the play was far away from him and he gives the benefit of the doubt to the ref as she saw it on replay with a good replay system in place. I am not sure what you mean when you say he was blaming the ref for something, but maybe you only saw part of his actual quote.

As some have alluded to above, the Tulsa player got the red for her punch or slap to Diaz at the end of the exchange. Nothing up to that point was going to draw a red card for either player.

One of the points of emphasis for college soccer in 2024 was eliminating "overly physical play", especially non-soccer plays. It's not a PoE this season, for whatever reason, but these types of situations like the Diaz one were exampled alot; those off-the-ball moments of physicality. Grabbing an opponent by the arm and throwing her to the ground is the type of play coaches asked to be punished with a red card last season.

This season, that's off the PoE list. So if yellow is what's wanted in this situation, I'll walk it back. But I'd imagine the powers that be want this punished with a red card again this season. Striking an opponent is always a red card and the Lamar player earned it.

Video Review in college works differently than VAR. The referee is choosing to review the decision that was just made, so they are re-refereeing their own decision. There is no "assistant" part in the middle helping analyze the decision. It's semantics but it's a huge difference between VR and VAR. The ref is more likely to confirm the decision just made than overturn it. Just repeating what I'm hearing on the conference calls we have.

If I might include some positivity here, I really enjoyed watching Diaz play. She's a good player and has a high motor and even higher determination. She's a bright spot on this team for certain.

It's going to be a really long season unfortunately. This is not a very good team. A few bright spots in Diaz and Buchanan, but we simply don't have the roster to compete in the SEC this year. Coach G will be allowed to finish the season regardless of our record due to his stature in the women's game. There's no reason to humiliate him with an early dismissal. The bigger issue is what Trev is doing behind the scenes working on the next coach. I'm hoping for a pure teacher of the game, maybe a hire akin to Morrison in volleyball.

Yes, this is spot-on. They did a fantastic job of killing about three minutes in that corner. A core winning skill that was very well done.

Yep. Reminds me of Maile Hayes. This team will desperately need someone of this ilk--like Merritt Mathias and Shea Groom in past years--who will just take charge of a game and make things happen. Diaz might become that player.
