After all the angst and whining (and corruption), we finally get this thing underway on North American soil. We start with Group A featuring co-hosts Mexico, South Africa, South Korea & Czechia. This thread will be for all Group A matches.
Because of the expanded format this year, in addition to the top 2 group teams advancing, 8 of the 12 3rd place teams also advance. They're placed in their own table at the end of the group stage and ranked based on 1) points, 2) goal difference, 3) goals scored, 4) team conduct score. If it gets past that it simply goes to whoever is ranked higher in the latest FIFA rankings.
Mexico dominate Group A. South Africa pull a shock upset and jump from 4th to 2nd in the group and auto advance. This also creates our first confirmed Ro32 match which will be South Africa vs Canada in LA. South Korea are limping into the knockout round, but should advance. Czechia are headed home early.
