My fault for falling alseep at 5am. So many texags fight i miss cause of sleep.

Thread A World Cup group is definitely a twilight zone mixed with chaos theory.

Rooting for teams because someone didnt get VD. Hating on Mexico because of Mexicans being a**holes. News flash, Mexican fans are a**holes because they live in Mexico.

Since when being called gay an insult. Had civilian call me a gay neo nazi grand wizard. I busted out laughing at that one.
Didn't realize I got a promotion. LOL

Last but not least my favorite topic in the rant, comparing when accounts were created and how many blue stars one has.

Can't wait to see what is mentioned in Group D thread.

I love the pearl clutching from people getting offended at puto and then probably head over to F16 and rant about how sensitive our society has become.

I wouldn't even consider rooting for Mexico until the day comes when the overwhelming majority of 2nd+ gen Mexican-Americans root for USA first and Mexico second. Period. Maybe that's petty, but I'm tired of our team having less fans when the game is played on home soil.

And I get it. I can appreciate why this phenomenon has happened historically, but the times are changing and it really needs to stop.

I don't see that happening anytime soon, not sure why it happens but it does. I'm a US citizen born in Texas to Mexican parents, but even my kids cheer for Mexico over the USMNT. I'm married to a white female, she doesn't care about soccer enough to get them a USMNT jersey. I have ~15+ military US (Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy) members in my family, 80-90% of them cheer for Mexico over the US.

I'm second generation American on one side just like your kids and while I like my mom's family's heritage and would cheer for my maternal grandparents' country against many others, I can't imagine loving my mom's parents' country more than USA. To leave where you're from and immigrate elsewhere for a better life a generation ago to the point you're working on third generation grandkids and having them disliking their home country is a little off-putting honestly. I think there's subconscious sense that people used to immigrate here and assimilate and love it here and be proud to be American, but now many people come here to take advantage of it while maintaining such a strong allegiance to a place your parents or grandparents had to leave.

It happens far too more often than you think.

I'm probably even guilty of it. I just dont care enough to go back through all my post and confirm it.

You are overthinking this. It's a game. In a literal war, none of us would pick Mexico over the USA. We are talking about a soccer game here.

Those are absolutely factors, and yeah - most international migration now occurs less for "pull" factors (free land, lots of jobs, etc - like we had historically) and more for push factors (political and economic turmoil in the country of origin). So those are folks who would overwhelmingly prefer to stay but feel like it's obvious they need to leave.

The most compelling reason for Mexico fandom that a good friend told me years ago was simple: he had far more family and close friends in/from Mexico that liked soccer than any of his gringo friends/family. He would always root for Mexico over the US because it meant more to them. And I got on board with that as a good reason at that time, but like I said - times are changing and the game has been growing here quite a bit.

In fact, 20+ years ago, most non-Hispanic Americans weren't merely just "meh" about soccer, they were openly hostile towards it. Making slurs of a variety of types against men that play it. I used to be one. Soccer wasn't just something I didn't like - it was something I made fun of. Thankfully I saw the light 16 years ago and it has grown to be my favorite sport for the past 8 or so. Similarly that old attitude is largely gone broadly.

And more than that, the game has grown to the point where it has passed baseball in terms of people's favorite sport to watch. So like I said, times are changing (but it will still be a slow turn).

No I get it. Just trying to pontificate why American fans may find it off-putting.

I was in a resort in Mexico and was in a sports bar full of People watching the game.

We were all Americans and I was the only one rooting for US.

I hate the mexican team and their fans. Whenever the US has them down, they start pulling cheap chicken **** fouls like marquez in the WC 2002. And who was the goalkeeper that tried to trip one of our forwards late in a game?

Put them on a boat to Australia and let them argue about who to cheer for

Funny to see some people on here shi* on Mexico, i feel like we support the three hosts in Mexico and celebrate anyone who comes to play here. It might just be a little jealousy the vibes are unmatched and wont be matched anywhere in the us or canada. Still want to see USA get as far as possible though!

The vibes? You mean throwing crap towards the field during a corner in the dying moments of a one goal game?

They deserve to be **** on. Keep your vibes.

Mexico is far and away the best host in the WC so far, and all fans have said as much.

Y'all's hate for Mexico is pretty funny.

Like nobody could enjoy the atmosphere in Mexico because y'all dislike the team.

Most dislike the fans. The fact that they throw crap at opponents is enough to make you hate them. Heck US fans need an escort to be safe when playing qualifiers at Azteca. Heck they were thowing stuff at the Korea game per the announcers (I never saw it broadcast)

Not to say US fans cant be bad but at least in soccer that is rarely the case.
