The third place team in this group has a solid chance to be one of the 8/12 3rd place finishers to advance to the round of 32 since they will likely pour it onto Curacao for 3 points and big GD boost. As long as they don't lose big to Germany.

The last time the World Cup used this format (top two thirds of 3rd place teams advance), in 1994, it took 4 points to go through. Ecuador may need a draw vs. Germany.

If 3 points does get a team through, it will likely be on the basis of a large GD for pounding a team like Curacao.
