What's up with the coaching exodus? Everyone just wants to leave bc the org is so dysfunctional?

First Sweeney went to the spurs. And I heard the other day that Dudley and shamgod are also both leaving?

Jensen also left, it that's understandable bc he went to be the coach of the Utes.

Nico has no idea what he's doing and/or Dumont doesn't have mommy's debit card.

my guess would be it probably became very toxic after the luka bs. if nico is that much of a clueless ******** to the public and fans, I can only imagine what he's like behind the scenes

Mommy's debit card is only for getting a casino approved in downtown Dallas. Get ready for the employment promises aimed at South Dallas…

Lots of opportunity to move back in to the draft.

I can't speak for behind the scenes, but I met him in person recently, and he's very likeable, kind, and personable. Easy to talk to as well. Very different from the on-camera/public persona.

Yea, his whole career is soft social skills.

Interesting info. Seems like we haven't had two-ways to work with in some time.

Every team has 3 two-way contracts every year, but you can sign the player for one or two years.

Two-way contracts are not guaranteed, so the player can be cut at any time and any other player can be signed to the two-way slot.

Of the five teams in the SW Division, there is only one Two-Way player under contract and that is to the Pelicans. Most are 1y deals, so I believe most teams have 3 two-way spots available.

A two-way player can't be a TW for more than 3 years with the same team.

Mavs have used the two ways on AJ Lawson and B Will for the past several years and then another guy. So it's the first time in several years the Mavs have all 3 available at this point in the year.

Would love for the Mavs to jump in on this Watkins slide. He's an older player who could theoretically contribute immediately. Did everything for FSU.

Welp, didn't make any moves.

Guys I would like to see the Mavs sign: Jaxson Robinson, Brice Williams, Ryan Nembhard, Mark Sears, and Payton Sandfort.

Sears and Nembhard are small, but their ability to run an offense at a high level was proven over several years.

Edit: Would also like Sallis.

Advanced metrics seem to really like Kelly. He also shot 40% from 3 in SEC play this year and is 39% from 3 in conference play for his career (3 years at GT before 1 year at Auburn).

I wasn't actually 'worried' about him making the roster. 99% of these dudes never play a meaningful min in the league. Just making fun of the Mavs for 'acquiring' another Front Court player.

Fair enough lol. I do think it would be reckless to not have a big on a two-way though, or deeper on the bench. Lively is injury prone until proven otherwise and AD is AD.

I don't know if Kai Jones is willing to stick around or if he is allowed to be on a two way again.

Jaxson Robinson still unsigned. He has a nasty wrist injury, so that must be what is keeping teams away. Not sure what else would be keeping team's from signing him. He's a long wing who can shoot and handle a little.

Usually its the teams that have been on top for a sustained period of time that experience their assistant coaches leaving for promotions.
This seems to be leaving for sideways moves mostly

And now the Lakers are being sold. And yet people still believe the trade was legit. If you still can't spot the similarities with the Pelicans situation when that franchise was up for sale, I don't know what else can be done for you
Layout the similarities. We'll see if you actually remember the NOH sale and trades correctly.

The convo looks like it's moved past this, but I wanted to at least respond to you.

I didn't look the timeline back up, so I can be fudgy on a few things, but if I'm not mistaken:

The NBA came into the ownership of the New Orleans franchise. They vetoed a trade that would've sent Chris Paul to the Lakers, which appeared to be a lopsided trade to many (just thinking about what that reminds me of is making my blood boil). Though the league previously vetoed what I'm claiming it orchestrated now, the league was trying to sell the team that would've been disadvantaged, not the other one.

The league goes more than a year without being able to sell the team. When they finally find a buyer, the franchise just so happens to win the draft lottery in a year that the best player available is viewed as a can't-miss, generational talent. Perhaps an agreement was made, contingent on the sale?

-The league bought the Hornets in December 2010. The league wanted to keep the team in New Orleans so as not to damage the perception of the league. The sale was also delayed, because the league shut down in the 2011 offseason. After re-opening the league collected bids and was officially sold 5 months later.

-Chris Paul in the midst of the turmoil was on the final year of his contract with a player option the following year. At the beginning of the season/end of the lockout he made it clear he would be opting out and not resigning with the team. (Different)

-The GM of the Hornets negotiated a trade with the Lakers that returned less than the perceived value of Chris Paul and the owner (the league) when presented with the trade vetoed the package. (Different)

-The team that ultimately lost their franchise player was sold. (Different)

-The team that traded their franchise player tied for the third worst record and had a 1 in ~7 chance of getting the first pick. If the team with the best chance had won people would be saying the league funneled Davis to Jordan, if the second best chance had won it would be the league wanted a good team in DC, if the 3rd best chance had won it would've been the league wanted to make up for Lebron leaving. (Different)

The fact the Lakers are now being sold doesn't increase the similarities between the two scenarios. It is the opposite of what happened. The league didn't maximize the value of the team being sold, the player being traded was traded because he asked to be traded.

I'm going to reiterate over and over that you all should stop trying to rationalize the trade as a conspiracy and just accept that our GM is stupid enough to operate on a platitude like "defense wins championships." Guy just sat in an introductory press conference for Flagg and said "I think the fans will now see the vision." And also said that they were able to get Flagg because "Fortune favors the bold." He is. A doofus.

As a native New Orleanian, what pisses me off is that the Hornets/Pelicans would have gotten a WAY better deal with that Lakers trade than they did with the eventual Clippers trade.

Lakers trade:

* Lamar Odom (he won 6th MOY that year)
* Luis Scola (still putting up 18/8)
* Kevin Martin (solid shooter/wing)
* Goran Dragic (Became All-NBA 2y later)
* Rockets 1st - 12th pick, used for Jeremy Lamb (****ty draft, oh well.)

Clippers trade:

* Chris Kaman (13/8 unfrozen caveman, allowed to walk in FA)
* Al-Farouq Aminu. 8th pick a year before, he sucked. Was 6/3 for Clippers
* Eric Gordon - had missed 20 games in the two seasons before the trade with lots of injuries. Tore his knee up and had to have surgery just 2 games into his career in New Orleans. He averaged 15p2r3a in 5 seasons with the Hornets/Pelicans.

The Lakers trade was WAYYYYYY better for the Pelicans.
