Hard to take them that serious when they don't know we are drafting at #2.
I still think Sorber will have the better career if his foot is ok. He's a more complete center.
I can't see any way the Spurs trade up for a guy like Malauch. They will just address backup center with the MLE.
My favorite option is that Orlando has a logjam at center, money is tight, and they want to keep Mo Wagner there as the backup center with his ability to stretch the floor a little. So they trade Goga into our MLE (about 8.3M) leaving us with 5.1M in MLE left and 5.1M in BAE (which can't be combined.)
Try to get LaRavia with a 4y deal starting with the rest of the MLE and Taurean Prince with the BAE. Center with the 38th pick. Carter Bryant at 14
Wemby - Goga - Rocco (two-way)
Barnes - Sochan - LaRavia
Prince - Bryant - Keldon
Castle - Vassell - Julian
Fox - Harper - Wesley
I like Sorber too and can see why you say that. Sorber is a better perimeter player. I know his shot is more developed than Maluach and that is a big deal to stretch the floor as a 5. But I worry about his foot. He played with explosion, I hope he regains it and his foot isn't an issue.
Maluach has agility for a big man. You can see his soccer athleticism, he also has some of the nostalgia traits of centers in the past, his huge size and length remind me of mutombo. But I think Maluach is better offensively, or can develop a good offensive game as he is pretty new to the sport but has great agility for a big guy. Maluach could really develop.
I would be ok with taking sorber around 20 or so, but at 14 it's too much a gamble with his foot,
I like Sorber and Maluach over all of the centers drafted last year. Maluach I like for the spurs, but Sorber is a close second, but with the foot injury, I would definitely take Maluach.
I'd be good with a player like Goga. I would support that, I think starting wing is a big role for Priince, especially with Harper. The problem is if we start castle at the 3, it's a small lineup, unless we have a big four and a big center or Wemby.
Taking Sorber would obviously depend on doctor evaluations. If they give the all clear, I'm all in.
I think that Malauch will be a solid center, but I think he will be a Dereck Lively. Good rim protector, swat shots, throw down easy buckets. But I think that to be more than that, he has a ton of game skills he has to work on. I don't think he will be as good all around as Jakob is. Malauch does not have the all around skills.
And while I take the Combine tests with a grain of salt... Malacuh tested TERRIBLY. I question the soccer athleticism.
Only 7 out of 50 players had a worse max vert (30").
Only 3 out of 50 players had a worse standing vert (24").
Only 5 out of 50 players had a worse three quarter sprint (3.5 sec)
Only 4 out of 44 players had a worse shuttle run (3.44 sec)
Only 8 out of 50 players had a worse lane agility (12.05 sec)
While Dereck Lively is a nice piece to have, I'm not breaking the bank to get that. Right now, Malauch does not have any actual offensive skill set at all.
Sorber already has the game skills to work on. I still think he compares well to Atlanta-era Al Hortford. He has really nice passing, is strong, great broad shoulders and long arms. Malauch will probably be the better rim protector just by being taller, but I think Sorber will be better at literally everything else on the court.

Prince started this year for Milwaukee and last year for the Lakers. As a secondary defender that goes and hides in the corner and waits for a shot, I'm great with him. Especially when you consider he is playing with Wemby, Barnes, Castle, and Fox. You can also go after Jake LaRavia if you want to swing on upside, but I prefer getting what we know with Prince. Ideally, you develop Carter Bryant into a Trey Murphy clone sooner than later.
