whining about shooting and wanting to get rid of Keldon, is this Groundhog day?
We just had a team win the title with horrendous shooting. The did it with energy, physicality, defense, and rim attacks. If this squad gets coached up on defense, see Sean Sweeney, then it could be a very scary squad. I see a team with multiple ball handlers who attack the rim relentlessly. Keldon is still a relatively cheap high energy bench player. I'd take him over John Collins any day.
I also think a few of our guys will keep getting better from the 3pt line. Castle and Harper in particular.
I mean I just disagree with everything here.
OKC may not have shot the ball well in the finals but they were still 6th overall in 3pt % this year with the rest of the Final 4 being Indiana (9th), New York (8th), and Minnesota (4th). Comparatively, the Spurs were 20th this season. It's not the end all be all for winning but it is definitely a major weakness of this team.
As far as Keldon goes it is just an awkward fit with the way the roster is constructed and:
KJ - 48.2% FG, 31.8% 3PT, 77.3% FT
JC - 52.7% FG, 39.9% 3PT, 84.8% FT
The thing about Collins is he didn't opt out of a 1y26M deal because he knows he can't get better than that, even though he is going to lose playing time this year to Ace Bailey. His value should theoretically be better now than any other time in his career. But there is no itnerest.
The Jazz have been trying to trade him for years. The Hawks traded Collins for a retiring Rudy Gay and a 2nd round pick that won't convey.
Maybe the fact that no one wants him and that his agent has told him not to opt out of the 26M contract is evidence that he isn't that good and doesn't contribute to winning. He had nice shooting numbers on a 17-win tanking Utah team that was awful at everything. When he had big numbers in Atlanta - it was their 20-win season.
A year ago, Zach Lowe said that Utah would have to attach a 1st to move Collins. Closer to the end of the season this year, they may be able to move him for the same reason we may be able to move Keldon next year - ending contract.
Collins has better stats than Barnes. He's 6 years younger, would fix rebounding issues. I still wouldn't trade Collins for Barnes.
I just can't understand the fixation on him. Is it just looking at box scores?
