If I am a Ranger fan, I worry this little hot spell is going to ruin their chance of retooling and trying again next season. It won't be a lot, but you can get something for Corbin, Martin, Gray, and others.

One can say the exact thing about the Astros. You really think they're as good as their record indicates?

Checking in on our friends from the north. Yall buying or selling at the deadline?

The Sugar Land Astros are surviving with duct tape and WD-40. We're looking to buy anyone healthy and cheap that swings it from the left side.

Left side? We can make you a whale of a deal on Joc Pederson that would make your head spin. Don't get sidetracked by his broken arm.

Healthy, we've got a DH at Frisco that swings it from the left side. He doesn't miss many meals tho . . .

The guy who has constantly trashed us in interviews? Nah

Come on man, you think I was serious?

I'm actually serious about the AA Frisco kid. He makes Prince Fielder look like a triathlon champ.

God knows I hate me some Ranger fans (just a few), but they'd be idiots to sell at this point. Their "little hot streak" is a 24-19 stretch back to June 1. That's .558 baseball for almost 2 months. A team with that good of pitching is lethal in a short playoff series.

I wouldn't call a .765 winning % over the last 51 games a "hot spell". That is about 1/3 of a season. They absolutely are playing above their weight class with 17 players on the IL. The difference is, they won't be when Pena, Meyers, Paredes, Yordan (fingers crossed), McCullers, Javier, Garcia, France, etc come back this year. It makes much more sense for the Astros to buy. Fangraphs has us with a 95.6% playoff odds.

Thats a whole lot of what ifs and wishes with injuries. My opinion, and their run difference indicates this, the Astros are solid but a lot of that record is smoke and mirrors. Too many injuries. My point was them staying hot is going to blow their chance to sell as well when they could be getting a return to retool their farm with trading guys like Framber.

It was going to take a lot for the Rangers to sell with guys like Seager, Semien, Eovaldi and deGrom healthy and in the meat of their contracts.

Weird you picked June 1 as a date.

June 1 to July 9: 16-17
July 10 to July 22: 7-2 *the hot spell*

Wishes? Players recover from injuries. Do you think they're all just going to retire?

Yea cuz the Astros have the best training staff in MLB and their players always return when expected

i looked at their record by month on baseball reference. They had a losing record in may, a .500 record in June, and a winning record in July. it suggests they are playing better with each passing month.

The most consistent thing about the Astros this year is that they pitch well and they play good defense. If you do those things well for an entire season odds are you will be in October. Everybody keeps trying to write us off every single year and we keep proving them wrong.

I'd say our final record will likely be something like 9270 (which would be 32-28 the rest of the way) and we end up in the ALCS. From there I don't know if we could win it just due to pitching depth in a 7 game series unless guys like Javier and Garcia return to their pre-injury form.

Framber has been consistent an ace… Hunter Brown was but that week before the all star break he has seemed to hit a wall. I'd assume we trade for a decent starter and then we get some guys back.

Only reason I hold out hope as a Ranger fan is the pitching. They are the best in baseball, and it's not even close.

Top staff ERAs this season. Being a full 0.34 better than anyone else this late in the season is ridiculous.

1. Texas Rangers 3.16
2. Kansas City Royals 3.50
3. New York Mets 3.57
4. San Diego Padres 3.58
5. Milwaukee Brewers 3.58
6. Houston Astros 3.59

When you dig deeper, the Rangers pitching leads the league in the difference between actual vs exected. There could be some regression coming. On the flip side, the offense should see some positive regression to the mean.

It's disingenuous for any fanbase to pretend the Astros haven't had the worst injury luck. But don't expect us to feel bad for you either. You don't have a World Series roster no matter what, so if your season is a wash bc of injuries who cares

I'd rather have a team with a couple real Ace pitchers ,with some really solid cast players on the mound, and some bats waking up to score a few runs than a team that is trying to hang on to a divisional lead that is shrinking faster than the Big Unit when they turn the lights on at the Chicken.

I'm not "hanging any banners", but I like the Rangers chances down the stretch quite a bit. Maybe Houston will draw an easier opponent in the next series.

We'll see how it all fares once the Astros get some guys healthy. It'll be a good 3 team race down the stretch.

Nice deflection... a little rude and more than a little ironic since you checked and responded... but that's ok.

Glad your team is waking up. Should be some good baseball talk this fall.

Ichiro was hilarious. Where did that come from? I feel like we were cheated out of about 20 years of humor. He should have played up the funny Asian bit from Day 1, he kind of gave me Long Duk Dong vibes.

Not sure anyone in Houston would disagree with you. We have a couple of ace pitchers (even if a subjective measure), but little else on your list at the moment. The big "if" for the Astros is whether Javier, Arrighetti, McCullers, and Garcia can be solid cast pitchers. I feel better about that than your last item, because the bats are not waking up. Not even that- they were amputated and put into an induced coma, lol.

deGrom v Brown
Eovaldi v Framber

Seriously, baseball doesn't get much better than matchups like that in the playoffs. But then....

Jack Leiter v Ryan Gusto?

Javier, Garcia and Arighetti are about to be back within 2-3 weeks

Leiter vs Javier sounds better. Then game 4 would be Corbin vs Garcia/Arighetti?

Season series in the DeGrom/Eovaldi/Brown/Framber games

2-2

(edit to say the 6-3 Astros win was Eovaldi vs Lance McCullers. Framber pitched series final in Arlington which was an Astros win)

Wouldn't line/box scores be a better way to compare SP matchups? If you wanted to include RPs, then by all means.

Houston
Framber: 2GS, 2.08 ERA, 13.0 IP, 10H, 1BB, 18SO, 0.846 WHIP
Brown: 2GS, 3.46 ERA, 13.0 IP, 8H, 2BB, 17SO, 0.769 WHIP

Texas
Eovaldi: 2GS, 0.68 ERA, 13.1 IP, 7H, 4BB, 13SO, 0.825 WHIP
deGrom: 2GS, 1.29 ERA, 14 IP, 9H, 2BB, 15SO, 0.786 WHIP

Saw Arighetti pitch in Corpus Friday night. Started off pretty solid but started getting hit hard in the 3rd I think. Maybe the end of the 2nd.

I was just showing the final scores to say neither team would "cruise" to a win in those matchups given that they've been even results (technically 3-2 Astros if you include the Framber start in Arlington against Leiter)
