Well in the next week or so probably, George Springer will hit his 20th HR and get zero people a bingo square. Shows you how much we've all soured on George's durability as well as how critical a healthy George is to Toronto being good. 2025 is shaping up to be George's best year easily as a Blue Jay and his best period since 2019 when he finished 7th in the MVP vote. He's at .290/.382/.509 for an .891 OPS. It's weird to think he's the same age as Altuve since he didn't get called up until 2014.

Don't look now, but Yainer Diaz is making a late-season move to pursue his 20+ GIDP tally. He has 3 this month and is on pace for 14. You can do it, Diaz!

UNEASY LIES THE CROWN
With the Rockies going a dazzling 5-5 over their last 10, the White Sox are suddenly back in the conversation for most losses. Granted it's still 116 pace for Colorado and 105 for Chicago, but two weeks ago, it was 126 and 103.


STAY ON TARGET
Altuve notched hit #2,361 last ight. He's on pace for 40 more this year which would get him to 2,401. f he make it to 2,400, among the luminaries he will be passing in the next month and a half include: Alan Trammell, Lou Whitaker, Michael Young, Brett Butler, Enos Slaughter, Ryne Sandberg. Once you get to about 80th, it's pretty much all Hall of Famers and steroid guys.

He's been truly awful in AAA. 4.91 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP. He's in the "break glass in case of emergency" category.

Disappointed in Sanchez so far since acquiring him at the trade deadline. Guess I expected some good things from him against right handed pitching from what I had read about him. Hopefully he'll get it together starting tonight. Sometimes guys get traded and put undue pressure on themselves when joining a new club.

Because pretty close to 100% of what the Astros have said publicly about injuries to players has been bull**** over the last 2-3 seasons. No reason to actually start believing what they say at this point.

Because the Astros are liars when it comes to talking about injuries and why would a stomach bug yesterday affect if he pitches again in 5 days or not?

Why would sleeping wrong keep players out for months? Why would getting a massage crack a rib? Why would neck pain lead to a long absence for JV? They lie for no reason.

As they shuffled around space for Wagner's number, I started thinking that they should separate the retired numbers into two sides: on one side, retired numbers of players in the BBHOF, and on the other side those retired for other reasons or in Astros HOF only.

You could have Ryan, Biggio, Bagwell, Wagner, and theoretically, Jackie Robinson on one side and the others on the other side. Robinson could theoretically go on either side as needed as a HOF who never played for Houston.

You could potentially retire Verlander's number as well once he goes into the BBHOF and add it with those. If he is not in an Astros cap, I know that could create a slippery slope given that Joe Morgan's number is not retired, but let's be honest, Verlander's Astros legacy is much bigger that Morgan's despite the number of seasons played.

the Wagner jersey retirement seems a bit off

because he had great years with the Mets, Phillies, and Braves too

4 of his 7 all-star appearances were not with the Astros

47% of his career saves were not with the Astros

It depends just how problematic his personality is in the context of a potential new team.

Because that contract is still very team friendly. Even though he will decline as he ages (31 right now), you have a player who can play all three premium defensive spots up the middle averaging 4+ WAR a season signed long term for under $20M per year.

The last two years of that deal will be his age 35/36 seasons. Even if he declines, by the end, you will have racked up front loaded contract value, and the backend would be far from an anchor.

Why? You have a HOF career where a guy entered with your cap because he had more of his production with your team than any other. That seems perfectly natural for a retired number.

That is likely to become more and more common in an age where Biggio/Bagwell/(Altuve?) HOF-career-for-just-one-team becomes rare.

Wagner played the same number of seasons in HOU as Nolan Ryan did, and Ryan didn't even go in with an Astros cap.

Unlike most bad extensions he's still really good.
4.1 bWAR, 20 doubles, and 23 HRS in 92 games.
.952 OPS and 160 OPS+.

Since joining Houston, in 55 PA, he has 9 hits and 1 RBI. Has not had a hit since August 9 (0 for last 19) and no walks in that time.

.173/.231/.269.


However, in that same span, Cam Smith has 8 hits in 43 PA and 3 RBI.
.200/.256/.250

Chas has 3 hits in 17 PA and 2 RBI (and one of those things where the ball goes over the fence, what is that called again?)

and Melton just got back, but has 2 hits in 14 PA
.143/.143/.143 (-29 wRC+) Why is this guy playing?
