Feeling Juan Soto struck out on a slider that was almost in his dugout in game 1 to end it.

It happens. These MLB pitchers are pretty freaking good at getting most hitters out. Some nights are better than others.

Our team ISO (SLG minus BA, a more direct measure of power) was 17th in the league. Our high BA buoyed both our OBP and SLG. We didn't have a bad offense, just one that relied on getting base hits. We didn't walk much (27th in BB/game). I'm hopeful the walks will tick up but we'll see how much the additions affect our power output.

I just want to see our guys each have to stand in the batters box and watch a pitcher throw nothing but strikes and sliders into the opposing batters box. Put a metal post 6" outside the plate opposite the batter and let him swing away at anything he thinks is a strike. After letting the ringing stop in their hands after swinging at sliders out there for the 10th or 15th time and hitting that post instead, maybe they will start thinking twice about reaching out and trying to pull those pitches. If they were swinging to slap them into right field it would be different, but we insist on trying to pull those kinds of pitches.

Jose Altuve moved into 176th place all time in career hits with 2,235 on Friday.
He's now 4 behind John Olerud for 175th. He passed Mike Schmidt (2,234), who played 18 years, all for the Phillies, led the league in HR 8 times, RBI 4 times, walks 4 times, slugging 4 times, OBP 3 times, and OPS 5 times - finishing with a career OPS of .908.

548 HR and 1,595 RBI for Schmidt, who lost at least 15-20 more HR thanks to the 1981 strike that erased 50+ games from the schedule. In 102 games that year, he had 31 HR and 91 RBI.

Altuve's upcoming milestones include:

2,251 hits - that will tie him with Jose Cruz, an Astro for 13 seasons (1,937 hits)
2,273 hits - that will tie him with Carlos Lee, an Astro for 6 seasons (894 hits)
