Diaz has been awful behind the plate. He IS lazy back there. I can see where Framber is pissed, but the not backing up throws is equally as bad. If that team meeting didn't air out some obvious issues, then it was worthless.

So who is responsible for getting these lunkheads on the same page and lighting a fire under their posteriors?

Remember, coaches do very little at this level.

This team is broken and there is no fixing it this year.

Injuries are a big part, but no team with Altuve, Correa, Framber, and Hunter Brown should be this awful. Peña and Yordan won't fix this team.

I wish I could get paid what our coaches do to do very little.

Cmon now….pinch hitting all 3 of your outfielders in the 8th to run out of bench options and having your hitter hit in the 10th is work

He'd select bats as the weapon of choice and they'd drop from exhaustion.

Remember when this was the knock on Diaz and then suddenly he got interested in improving his defense when he was trying to secure a roster spot? Seems like he got his spot and has reverted to his regularly scheduled laziness.

Hard to chew gum and walk at the same time, how do you focus on defense when you're devoting so much time and focus on swinging at pitches in the other box?

Yordan will play one more game in CC and then join the team in Baltimore assuming all goes as planned.

Get that man in a plane to Baltimore as soon as the game is over.

I think Diaz has a hard time picking up the ball from Framber. Or he's lazy. He had another wild pitch yesterday where he didn't even get off his knee and just reached for a ball. When that ball was just out of reach. Very similar to one his last start in which I got in an argument with a few posters here over.

One of the wild pitches was squarely on Framber. Ball bounced in the batters box.

They are both to blame. Framber is a head case who never takes blame when he sucks and he's also lazy as f after he releases the pitch. Diaz is lazy as f behind the plate, never attempts to block a pitch, and whiffs on catching fastballs over the middle of the plate more than any pro catcher I've ever seen.

Diaz got too comfortable once he no longer had to worry about the Power of the Pear taking his playing time away.

I suspect there is a lot of dysfunction going on

and it will come out in the offseason -- similar to last year

We'll certainly know something was up if Dana trades Diaz over the winter. That would shock me, but then it wouldn't, either. If that makes sense…

And I'm not claiming he is a problem. I have no idea.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Clubhouse is fine. Guys are down bad and frustration is spilling over - rightfully so.

Yordan returning will give them a shot in the arm. A win tonight would go a long way as well. Let's hope this is just one of those bad stretches we see teams go through during the dog days of summer and they snap out of it soon.

Sidenote: Can you imagine being a Seattle fan the last week or so?

Making the moves they made and getting the same results we are right now would be pretty disheartening. Though they have been significantly more competitive in their losses than we have the last few weeks.

I'm done with Diaz, nothing but regression behind the plate and at bat. We already got the most out of him.

I think most of us forget that Diaz is essentially just a sophomore.

I'm going to need more than just a one season down turn in his 2nd full-time season before I'm ready to declare him a bust.

For those that drift in and out of this thread during the offseason, what were the main clubhouse issues last year that we learned about?

I dearly want to have fun watching them again too. If Correa can grab these guys by the noses and pull them into having fun and playing with passion again, it will go a long way towards helping that happen I think. Right now it seems like we have a lot of guys wound really tight who are pressing too hard at the plate and are not having any fun. Winning is fun, but sometimes you have to manufacture the fun before the winning happens.

We have a plate approach problem and its been evident for years. The last couple of years talented players like Altuve, Alvarez, Tucker, Bregman, and to an extent Meyers putting up good numbers was IN SPITE of our awful team plate approach.

This year is what happens when you remove 3-4 of those guys from the roster. Pena breaking out and Paredes coming over with the most patient approach I've seen from an Astro in 3+ years is what kept this team alive.

Right now, Altuve is an absolute joke. Walker sucks. Diaz sucks. Correa is average.

We swing at the most 1st pitch strikes. We swing and miss a ton because we get behind in counts and end up guessing. We guess because the approach is "aggressive" instead of "see the ****ing ball".

Watching Houston and Seattle battle for 1st place is like two dudes trying to walk through a door at the same time and both are like "after you"... "no bro, after you"... "naw man, go ahead"... "seriously, thank you, but for real, go ahead".

And all the while the Rangers are standing in the distance watching: "Look at those morons... well I'm not going over there, I'll just wait here until one of them figures it out".

The Astros actually have one of the highest contact rates in baseball, which is a problem in itself. Lots of double-play grounders and weak pops/flyballs. A problem that I see is that they do not have the "bad ball" hitters from the past decade. You'll notice, for example, that Jose can't catch up to those eye-level fastballs that he used to launch over the fence. The approach hasn't changed, even though the talent has.

People can talk about the injuries and replacements, but they have not caused the vast difference with runners on base. The Astros are substantially worse with RISP, but the replacements weren't that good in any situation. Dropping from .190 to .120 while platooning doesn't move the needle nearly as much as the vets dropping from .250 to .160 while playing every day.

And I haven't even mentioned the green light that Diaz and Dubon have in all situations, and the freedom that everyone else has when the situation calls for advancing a runner.

Those are some of the reasons that I place 100% of the blame on the hitting coaches.

Well if you think Altuve is an absolute joke, Walker and Diaz suck and Correa is average, in what category do you place Sanchez and his 0-30 stretch?
