Rogers has been my fantasy team's rotation anchor … he is actually that good. Doesn't walk guys and misses the sweet spot of every bat. Hasn't allowed more than one run in his last six starts. CG loss in a 1-0 game in Wrigley, shut down the Phillies in Citizens Bank, dominated the Red Sox in Fenway, and shut down the Mariners when they were at their hottest.

If we manage to get to him at all, then we're so back.

I'd bet CW being better is also due to the baby being born and not just Carlos. Either way, great to see

That middle game is really important on many many levels.

I'm curious to see who catches Obese.

oh my, checking baseball reference this morning...

Walker ---> 0.0 WAR

You've gotta take WAR with a grain of salt, especially when you are comparing across positions.

Brendan Rodgers has a 0.1 WAR. It's stupid to say Rodgers has been more/equal of a net positive than Walker. If you take Rodgers away, I doubt there is any impact whatsoever to our W/L. If you take Walker away, we're in real trouble.

In fWAR Walker is 13th among qualified 1b, and Sal Perez and two Padres are ahead of him, meaning that he's almost top 10 among starting MLB first basemen. That also seems stupid to the other extreme.

Yeah - I don't think it has anything to do with Carlos.

And that's not taking away from his leadership presence at all.

They don't really have a choice. They need rested arms.

I agree. Love Carlos, and I'd buy it if it was a rookie, but I don't think an 11-year vet who has gotten MVP votes needs that.

The most simple explanation likely to be the right one, I would bet on finally getting more comfortable in a new place and a new approach + the regression to the mean that you would expect a guy who has been .800+ OPS the last 3 seasons to have.

He may have also been dinged up earlier in the year and is just feeling better physically. Who knows, just hope this version hangs around the rest of the season.

I think Carlos being around maybe takes some of the pressure off of Christian to be "the guy" with the contract he signed

very soft landing spot for Framber

at home vs. the hapless Rockies (37-93)

16-48 on the road

Equal parts Carlos fanboys who just want it to be true + the many posters can't admit to being wrong and have said he sucks and he's done and doubled down on that, so when he figures it out they have to find an external factor to mitigate.

But...I do think we have been missing, Bregman, Maldy, Yuli and other historical "vibes guys" and Carlos definitely adds an intangible confidence and positive presence that is worth a lot.

I just think that has about as much to do with Walker's hitting as Espada's managing has to do with our recently crap bats (and our now good bats).

You'll get none today. Or you'll get more. I don't even know what to expect anymore. At least we get an extended run with these younger guys. If Rogers pitches lights out again today, we need to look him up for several years. I'm sure he'll be on the IL soon.

The thing about Walker though....

Is that he's been hitting offspeed pitches.

I haven't seen evidence that he can hit a fastball well over 95 mph. And that's going to be a real problem in the post season. I honestly don't know why any pitcher that can throw that fast doesn't just pound them in the zone and dare him to hit it.

Not sure how bing AI came up with this graphic for Astros Bingo, but I'm going with it. I got a content warning when I tried to have the second line say "F88k the Rangers.

IT'S A MIRACLE
Christian Walker has reached a 90-RBI pace for the year, making 7 people very happy for the day at least. He's also on pace for 24 HR, 1 off his square.

ONE WEEK TO GO
Four people picked us to be in first at the end of August. One week to your square.

BACK IN THE 90S
Win pace is officially back up to 90.

TUCKER HAS STOPPED SUCKERING
Two more homers yesterday, 3 in the last 2 games, 21 total, on pace for 26.
And Springer hit his 22nd and is on pace for 27.

AL WEST TRIES TO COURSE CORRECT
A's up to a 74-win pace, Angels started to teeter on disaster at 85-loss pace. Trout breaks 100 games, but does anyone notices he's having a terrible season?

ROCKIES ON THE BRINK
-345 run differential with 30 games to go. Record is -349.

JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE GOAT
Altuve got his OPS up to .801 yesterday. In 66 games hitting third, it's .910. Three hits yesterday brought him to 2,367 for his career. He passed Alan Trammell who played seasons, all for the Tigers, and is the HOF. Jose is now 2 behind Trammell's DP partner for 19 seasons, Lou Whitaker, who is at 2,369.

Trammell played from 77-96 for the Tigers, took over their SS job at age 20 in 1978, and played at least 75% of their games every year from then until 1991. He looked like a pretty strong candidate for 3,000 hits, but from ag 33 to age 38, his game counts for the year were: 101, 29, 112, 76, 74, and 66. Just another reason why anytime you see Jose play in person or on TV, you've got to relish it, because the older he gets, the close we are to the day he breaks down or has to hang it up.

Trammell hit over .300 6 times, won 4 Gold Gloves, 3 Silver Sluggers and made the All-Star team 6 times. All of that while going head to head with Cal Ripken at SS for his entire career, and Robin Yount for the first half of it.
In '78, he finished 4th for Rookie of the Year. His teammate Whitaker won it, Paul Molitor was second,, and Carney Lansford was third.

In '84, when the Tiges went insane and started out 35-5 in route to a 104-58 record and their first World Series in 16 years, Trammell hit .314 i the regular season, then was MVP of the ALCS, hitting .364 with a 1.318 OPS. He then pulled a Jeremy Pena and won WS MVP as well hitting .450 (9 for 20, 2 HR, 6 RBI) in the 5 game rout of the Padres that made me feel really badly for Tony Gwynn, but that was countered by my laughing frequently at Steve Garvey.

In '87, Trammell suffered an all-time Hose Job in the MVP race. His Tigers tracked down and caught the Blue Jays in the last few days of the season to win the AL East, going 98-64. George Bell won MVP with an out-of--nowhere 47 HR, 134, .308 season for the Jays. Trammell hit .343, hit 28 HR, drove in 105 runs, had 205 hits and scored 109 runs and stole 21 bases. He hit .417 in September/October with a .677 slug and a 1.167 OPS and finished 2nd to Bell by 21 votes.

His home run last night was off a fastball over 95mph.
