Sounds like Garcia is close but won't start v Rockies

RHP Luis Garcia
Injury: Tommy John surgery
IL date: March 27, retroactive to March 25 (transferred to 60-day IL on April 7)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Manager Joe Espada said the club is mulling whether Garcia is in line for another rehab start as Houston gets ready for its upcoming 10-game homestand vs. the Rockies, Angels and Yankees. (updated Aug. 23)

Which implies (maybe)

Starters v Angels

Fri Arrighetti
Sat Javier
Sun McCullerd
Mon Garcia

Which then allows v Yankees

Tue Brown
Wed Framber
Thu Scott or Arrighetti

Shea Langoliers just hit a grand slam off Skubal, Athletics lead Detroit 6-3, could gain a half game there.

What happened to Brice Matthew's? I thought he did very well when he was called up.

If we had another series in Arizona, Id be on board, but we dont so he needs to be back at AAA and develop on his own pace the rest of this season for sure

I went to that series and he looked like Ryne Sandberg.

Given his recent outings, I would be ok seeing Arrighetti go to the pen now instead of giving him a couple more starts. Alexander has been much better recently.

Spencer has actually been pretty serviceable two of his last three outings… I will take 5 innings and 2 runs any time with this current staff.

There's 5 pitchers vying for the 3 spots behind Brown and Framber.

Yordan at 3, Correa at 4.

Breaks up the righties and a starting pitcher should have to face Yordan in the first inning.

Would even go Yordan 2, Altuve 3, Correa 4.

I don't see how anyone can't have Yordan in the top three of the lineup.

All this yapping about where to put Yordan is moot until hes added back to the roster.

Dana is on the clock. I figure they have until about 3:00PM today. Maybe a bit longer.

Teams typically wait until later in the day for the move to become official.

All I know is that if he's not added today for the game the meltdown on here will be spectacular. Fran vs OU level spectacular.

As long as Alexander is pitching well, his rotation spot has to be secure - if for no other reason than the fact that he has been averaging six innings per start. We HAVE to have someone other than Brown and Framber who can pitch into and beyond the fifth inning. And to me, unless he struggles, Javier has a clear leg up on a spot

You don't have to do formal tandem starts, but I do think it would behoove us to move two of McCullers, Arrighetti, and Garcia to the pen as multi-inning relievers that can especially be deployed after shorter starts from other guys.

If we don't, we won't even have a bullpen by the end of September. Chas may be the closer.

Let Walker get a lot of choice pitches and stay hot.

"Dana, why wasn't Yordan activated for today's game?"

"Well, he couldn't make it back on time after we flew him out to Thailand to get a sixteenth opinion about his hand."

I am reluctant to move Altuve out of the 3 spot, but Yordan hasn't seemed as comfortable in the 2 spot in the past, plus I like having Altuve's speed with Peña's at the top. Yordan also draws a ton of walks and I like Correa's approach immediately behind that more than Altuve's:

Peña
Altuve
Alvarez
Correa
Walker
Sanchez
Diaz/Caratini
(mix and match last two spots)

Paredes has been out since July 19th

but still the Astros walk leader:

49 - Paredes
47- Altuve
37- Walker
35 - Cam
27 - Pena, Jake
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He's been almost league avg vs LHP. Jake coming back would fix a lot of issues tho.

edit: fixed the lineup to remove Chas.
SpaceCityAg05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, of our bench mix other than Caratini, Dubon is our one guy that is a true plus against LHP. Getting back to a point where you just plug in Dubon and Cam Smith against LHP and keep the rest of the lineup steady wouod be a big win.

He can lay down a bunt, and has eaten 3 innings in blowouts. That's about all the positive.

He has the team lead in negative bWAR at -1.1 in 113 PAs. That's almost 2nd season Abreu bad, who had -1.7 bWAR in 120 PAs.

Don't see how he survives into next season given it's his Arb # 3.

This is so crazy. Someone in our analytics department must be giving an incredible presentation that swinging early and often is good for us. We're 4th in average and 8th in strikeouts. But we're 14th and 16th in OBP and SLG respectively because - in my opinion - working counts gets you better pitches to hit and more walks.

Paredes has been out since 7/19
Jake has been out since 7/6
Cam is a rookie batting .141 since 7/5
Walker gets blown away by 93 mph fastballs, who's walking him?
Altuve and Pena have never been walk-drawers, and that's fine, but we can't have a whole lineup full of them (+ Yainer)

Based on his current pace, it would take Yainer Diaz 305 games to get to 50 walks in a season.
