Also interesting that as bad as Diaz has been that the catcher position has that high of WRC and xbh.

At this point, changing the lineup is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. It's the same result no matter what.

Here's the latest bingo standings with 18 games to go. Can anyone stop wmitchell from winning $100?

Diaz has been fine offensively when playing catcher. Saladbar (tiny sample) and Caratini have both killed it.

Position Splits

Player: C / DH (wRC+)
  • Yainer: 103 / 31
  • Caratini: 149 / 68
Both have struggled as a DH.

I agree -- but Altuve ahead of Yordan may get him better pitches. He has not been doing well as a RBI guy. Maybe he will be better as a table setter.

Yep. You traded for Sanchez for a reason and it wasn't to sit on the bench in favor of dubon

He's done fairly well in the 3-hole. Since May 19th (~16 times in 1 or 2 but mostly 3), he has 55 RBI (34th), 55 Runs (35th), and a wRC+ of 128 (40th). Maybe Yordan is a better option, but I think you want Pena and Yordan to get to the plate as much as possible.

Has Dubon played a corner OF spot over Sanchez vs a RHP?

That's probably Houston's train of thought but that's only about 20 PA's over a full season.

I shouldn't have said dubon but I meant in general he needs to start every game against the right handed pitcher or he needs to be the first bat off of the bench.

He should have pinch hit for Smith yesterday in the 7th

I think Altuve is just a rollarcoaster of a hitter now. He can do it at 1, 3, or 9.

No. But 131 PAs since mid-July is a significant sample to say he is not hitting well there right now and maybe moving him to another spot for a few games until he regains his stroke would be prudent. On the other hand, we don't have many guys who are hitting much better.

Anyone can play this little game.

From July 15 to Aug 16 he has a 137 wRC+.
From Aug 17 to Sep 7 he has a 45 wRC+.

Is a 87 PA / 20 game sample really significant?

I wasn't trying to pick a fight man, just pointing out that he is not the same hitter at the 3 spot in the 2nd half of the season that he was in the first half. If I were basing it off of the last week, you would have a point that I was cherry picking, but July 15 to September 8 is nearly two months and 30 games during which he has been flirting with the Mendoza line. IMO, he needs a change of some sort to get him going. We are running out of time to just hope he gets it worked out on his own.

RAIN DELAY WASHES OUT DIABLOS' OPENER; AVOIDS CONTROVERSIAL BATTING ORDER

HOUSTON (AP) - Proving that Mother Nature still has a few cards to play in the battle between good and evil, rain washed out of the debut performance of the Diablos baseball squad Sunday night, which was to feature Texasaggie2015's 2025 debut with the team.

Social media pundits are saying the rain hopefully "cooled off the Diablo manager's severe case of brain fever" as well. The early lineup card posted to Twitter revealed that Diablo manager Busty Daker had slotted Texasaggie2015 in as the squad's starting left fielder, but buried him at the No. 6 hole in the lineup.

"Daker needs to take another nap," armchair analyst MathPal71 said in a savage tweet moments after seeing the lineup. " Texasaggie2015 has a Q-WASTERBAN rating of -0.13 in the 5th inning of games played on Sunday. He's just been unlucky the last few years, you don't sit that kind of talent."

2015 appeared gracious and content when asked about his spot in the lineup, saying that he has a lot of respect for his manager and trusted his judgement. It should be noted that he went into the crowd and bought two of those giant foam rally fingers before answering the question, then put them on and used them to make giant sarcastic air quotes when he said the words "respect" and "judgement".

At the game yesterday with my mom (happy birthday), dad, two adult brothers and families and my son, all sporting some level of Astros gear. Mom really wanted to go to GL since she'd never been so we made it happen. Mom's text was she was disappointed in the result but happy we were all together. And on that I fully agree.

I will give props to the Great Hibachi for one thing -- my folks are old and stadiums are tough. We had tickets in 137; we were basically able to drop them off at the door and the walk to the seats about like walking from an HEB entrance to the apples. It was pretty amazing in that regard and super easy. Highly recommend 137-ish if you have older folks and need to limit walking.
