With other teams jettisoning their managers, there will be stiff competition to hire the best ones out there (whoever they might be).

This is where I am. I think it's fair to grade Joe on two years. Last year, sure, we won the division but we were two and Que in the playoffs. That was a step down and this year was definitely a step down. Sure, you lose Bregman and Tucker but there is no reason for optimism that espada can turn this thing around.

In every facet we were a worse team. I don't know where we ranked but we had to be at the very bottom of holding runners and chasing out of the zone. We couldn't manufacture runs and we couldn't stop our opponents from manufacturing runs.

In this era of rebuilding or retooling, we need a managing approach where we can scratch and claw. Espada doesn't fight for inches.

I am in the same camp that Espada was a good 'good cop', whereas you need the manager to be a 'bad cop'. I hate the jankees, but I know Boone, if I was a player, is going to go and fight for me. Rarely ever saw that in Joe.

There is a big difference when you have to make the decisions vs. helping get there (Manager vs. coach/asst. manager). As someone who works on long term projects (4+ years), there are things I hate working on, but if I have a good manager/boss, I'll power through because I like the person and can see the forest for the trees. But with the wrong manager, once things get rocky, I can go 'f it!' and quit. And we saw that with Framber and the team. And it is hard, nearly impossible IMHO, to get back to the respect/caring once you have been pushed over. Usually only done, in my world, by moving to different projects/companys.

This! I'm very disappointed each time I check for MLB updates and find out that we haven't fired ANYONE yet!

How worried are we that they won't make any staff moves and they just chalk this season up to injuries?

Very. I can't imagine not making at least some changes, even if Joe ends up keeping his job. The persistent offensive approach issues and terrible handling of Framber drilling Salazar cry out for some kind of change.

Astros GM Dana Brown declined to discuss his contract, but said "I will tell you, I'm the GM of the Astros and that's what I would expect to be." Asked if he has been given assurances that will be the case going forward, Brown repeated some version of that answer.

I'm not questioning you, but it does speak a bit to organizational dysfunction that they would wait longer to make that decision and still run them both out there to answer questions when they may not be in charge next year.

I don't know why I thought we would get anything out of this presser other than towing the company line and vanilla answers. My mistake.

James Click was sent to the GM meetings before the full winter meetings as a dead man walking, so the timing of the move wouldn't seem to be correlated with the post-mortem. Although, I assume Crane would move quickly if it was a priority.

I still think Diaz can be somebody. Pena was awful in year 3 and turned it around. I think Diaz can do the same. I know the rumor is we are shopping him around but I'd like to keep him.

Not entirely true.

There were some things he did (and said) at those meetings that Crane got wind of and that's when the decision was made.

Where is that rumor coming from? Just curious because I've seen it mentioned here a couple times. Would be the first I've heard of it.

I could be wrong, but Diaz looked heavier this season. I think he could benefit from dropping 15-20 pounds.

I don't remember who exactly it was, but it was a few days ago. Somebody posted that somebody in the media was talking about that Diaz was the first name they were shopping this off-season.
