Yordan wasn't a superstar when healthy this year. Hopefully he comes back but I'm concerned his best years are behind him, his body can't hold up.

My least favorite narrative was Altuve is washed. Is he MVP level? No, but he could still make an all star team and led the team in HR

Correct. Even though a lot of other teams still see him as superstar level. That's why I'm in favor of getting what we can for him, which could be quite a bit. Personally, I don't think the "injury thing" is going away.

Anybody help? Watch whenever a right handed batter is up and they show a shot from the dugout showing the batter's face.

There is an actor sitting behind the right handed batter...about helmet high. White hair, big dude...I think he usually plays a mafia type in movies. We can't remember his name.

he is not wearing glasses..sitting next to a lady in a yankees cap

It's Steve Schirripa -- Bobby from the Sopranos

Yordan is signed through 2028. See what happens next year, and then maybe think about it. It's obvious the front office believes they can run it back.

But, I have to believe that IF (and I said IF) you want a hard reset, Yainer, Diaz, Pena, and Brown would be a hell of a start. I mean, you'd challenge the Rockies for the worst team of all time, but that would supercharge the rebuild.

Yordan being signed through 2028 is exactly what adds a lot of value if we trade him. The less that time gets, and as more injuries rack up, that value goes down exponentially.

He was healthy for about 10 games when he came back. His OPS then was over 1.000.

I know one thing I've realized watching games and not having a team involved...It's incredibly important to get a BYE and avoid these WC series.

If our goal is championships and that's the bar were setting we need to play like throughout the season. Plan rest days against NL teams and teams tiebreakers may not matter. Set rotations throughout the season to maximize wins against playoffs teams and division winners.

You can load manage and still strategize to get the top seeds and win TBers.

If we're ok with getting in and hanging WC banners keep the status quo but if we're serious about winning championships the easiest way to do that is get a BYE.

No more of this if we get we get it crap. I want no more part of these 3 game series.

He wasn't healthy at any point this year.

OK - I'll concede the 10 days Mathguy pointed out

You just came off a season where you lost the most WAR to injury of any team this year and still almost won the division.

Why would you prefer a rebuild? It's a huge risk you suck for a long time if you rebuild. It feels like a rash and extreme reaction to missing the postseason this year.

I could be persuaded if, as you noted beforehand, Jim replaced the coaches and gave the players new and more authoritative voices. Maybe respected is the right word. Or helpful. Or whatever- just show some improvement in plate discipline, running awareness, etc.

I think if you say rebuild, you're saying both coaching and player talent is not going to cut it. I've only heard you really lament the hitting coaches and Joe, but haven't really heard your opinion on the talent. Where do you stand on the talent level of this team if healthy?

Let's see what happens to the teams with the bye before we make that declaration.

I honestly think the Brewers could get bounced in the first round. The teams who have won so far have hit HRs. They are 9th out of 12 playoff teams in terms of slugging. They are 8th or 9th in OPS.

With higher level post season pitching, and the ability to not have to skip high-leverage arms, the long ball makes a huge difference in the postseason.

Interestingly, the Padres are below them in SLG and OPS while the Cubs are 4th out of 12 teams in terms of SLG and 5th of 12 in terms of OPS.

For those that don't want a complete rebuild, what moves do you think we would need to make to compete for the division, ALCS or WS next year?

Sign/acquire at least one pitcher who is top 3 in the rotation worthy. Get another leverage bullpen arm. Sign a decent left handed outfielder who would slot in as a good 7 hole hitter.

To me, that along with guys just being healthy would win us 90-95 games again

You never answered my question -why do you want a rebuild?

Astros have to sign or trade for another starter or two. I think they need to move on from Dubon and use Urias as the utility guy. I think they need to get another guy to platoon at CF with Jake.

I'd like to see them add a solid BP guy or two. The scrap heap guys are good, but when they don't pitch a lot and then get thrust into a role where they will pitch a lot, I think injuries happen.

Who's going to be the #2 rotation pitcher? Get lucky with Alexander again? Who's going to bat 5-6 if we sign a 7 hole hitter? Diaz or Walker should be in the 7 hole if they are still here.

My point is there are too many holes to patch up and then pray that everyone, especially Yordan, stays healthy. Just don't see that happening, ESPECIALLY if we keep our manager (which you didn't mention).

Because I think we have too many holes to plug if we want to compete for the division. UNLESS of course Crane is willing to spend at the Dodgers or Yankees level of payroll - which I think is unlikely.

It took a historical year from a catcher in Seattle and a ton of injuries from the Astros for the Astros to lose the division this year.

I think competing for the division if we have even half the injuries as we did this year is entirely possible when adding a couple more pieces.

CW was a 5-6 hole hitter second half of the season. 118 OPS+ the second half. This board is stuck on a narrative with CW and for some reason isn't willing to be reasonable in discussion of him.

Now, competing for a pennant or WS is a slightly different discussion.

Slugging in the post season is more important than singles. Brewers may win their first round, but I would not be surprised AT ALL if they lose.

I don't really have a set position, but I would rather rebuild than slide into an annual fight for .500 and irrelevance like the Cardinals… or worse, the Angels. I would support a reload if Crane and Brown could pull it off, but the payroll is a problem. As we saw this deadline, "strategic" acquisitions don't really move the needle. The Astros have little payroll room and even less farm capital, so I struggle to see a competitive path forward.

I'm good with new voices in an effort to get Yainer's attention and hope against Father Time that the vets have another run in them. If next year is like this one, however, clear the deck and start over. I'd rather root for promising rookies than struggling vets. I get that it's not a guarantee- ask the Orioles. But, at least it offers some flexibility and the chance to change course, like signing free agents with the cap space.

TLDR- coaches this year, maybe roster next year.

I think Javier could be the 2 starter with an offseason of work and getting healthier.

My ideal lineup would be this

1. Pena - SS
2. Altuve - 2B
3. Alvarez - DH
4. Correa - 3B
5. Paredes - 1B
6. Diaz - C
7. (New acquisition) - LF
8. Smith - RF
9. Meyers - CF

While I, generally speaking, like this lineup, I wonder how many MLB teams have their outfielders bat 7,8,9?

No Sanchez?

Start him in LF or platoon him with Smith. I would platoon him. He should never see LHP so the L/R splits would work.

Issue with Javier is he doesn't go deep. Ever. 6IP is a long outing for him and it doesn't happen all that often. He's a 5ip guy. Can wreck the bullpen especially if the #3 guy is similar.

We need pop, trade walker and grab the polar bear from the Mets.

Sanchez is the platoon guy with Smith for me. My idea is to sign/trade for a good everyday lefty outfield bat

But with a fully healthy lineup, Sanchez might not see the field as much. Especially if they want to DH Altuve a lot (which puts Yordan in LF)

It sucks to not be watching the Stros in the postseason but I do have some good news for everyone:

In 2017 my wife and I tied the knot - Stros won the WS
In 2022 baby #1 hit the deck - Stros won the WS
In 2024 baby #2 is due - we'll see if she can rival tjack's rally baby and bring us another one

mean 2026?

That is definitely what I mean
