Planning an Alaska trip from Texas to Anchorage and on to Seward and Homer AK July 22-28, 2025. Any local Aggies in either Seward or Homer we could meet or Aggie-Owned businesses to support? We have three days of fishing scheduled for July 25-27th and looking to fill up the rest of the time there with interesting things to do and restaurants to try. Possibilities so far are:
Salty Dog
Russian River Falls
Exit Glacier
Thanks.

Salty Dog gets really crowded in the afternoon when all the fishing boats return to the dock. Cool place, and worth the visit, just be prepared to fight the crowd.

Go visit Millers Landing in Seward. They do lots of trips out of there, but otherwise is a nice place to visit and the drive is scenic. If you don't have a ton of time to kill, you can just ride one of their water taxis out and back and see the glaciers and coves from the boat. Thumb cove is amazing. The water taxi thing is intriguing. They take you and your gear out to several different places on the bay and just drop you off, then pick you up at a preset time. They have kayaks and stuff you can rent. We didn't have the time, so we just stayed on the boat.

Watch out for moose on the highway to Homer. Big bull stepped out right in front of my vehicle like he didn't have a care in the world.

It's not cheap (nothing in Alaska is when they have a 90 day tourism window) but a few years ago we took a float plane from Soldatna to go bear watching through Talon Air. They flew us to Big River Lake, just outside of Lake Clark NP and put us in boats to go watch the bears pick off the salmon - it was just amazing. Saw 10-15 bears (mix of black bears and brown bears). We were maybe 25 yards from the bears and it is on the Mount Rushmore of coolest things I've ever done in my life. We had a slew of kids with us (3-10 yo) and they were captivated for the full four hours we were on the boat.

There is also dog sledding on out of Girdwood (between Anchorage and Seward) put on by the Seavey family (legends in the Iditarod race world)....it's how they help fund their racing.

Also, I'm not an aquarium guy but the one in Seward is pretty awesome

To echo what Ryan said, the Aquarium in Seward is really nice. If you plan ahead, I'd suggest getting the private octopus experience. We were able to visit and play with Zissou, the Giant Pacific Octopus currently living there. We even fed him two crabs.

I'd also suggest a day trip to Brooks Falls or Lake Clark to see bears.

We also did a dog sled with the Seavey team, but we did the trail ride over gravel/dirt paths and didn't get up to the glacier (well, we did that in Juneau but not Seward). We're in it for the puppies, though!

Another thought is to take the full day Major Marine cruise out to Kenai Fjords. There are whales, jellies, seals…oh, and glaciers. It's awesome.

Ok, I just realized everything I suggested will add up in cost. But welcome to Alaska.

The drive to Seward is amazing. We stop at the Alaska Wildlife Center to feed the Moose and see some cool animals.

Homer and Seward are not close to each other. So keep that in mind.

full day river float from Cooper's Landing - on the road to Homer. Not white water. You want the full day which lets you out at the lake. So many salmon we could see them looking in the water. Watched a bear cub eating a salmon on the river bank. So peaceful near the lake we heard a mother duck swimming with her chicks before we turned the bend to see them. Super trip.
