The guy to watch is Johnny Keefer. He's a BU grad and is a Bryan Gathright student here at River Crossing CC in Spring Branch, Tx.

Kid will win more tourneys and Majors than Spieth ever thought about winning.

Rooting for Sam again (as always), but just took a look at the leaderboard at the Tulum Championship at PGA Riviera Maya... He shot +4 with 4 bogeys, a double and 2 birdies. He's currently tied for 133rd. The cut line hasn't been established, but is probably around +1 or better.

Dang, there is a name I have not heard in a while. He taught my brother to be a pretty good golfer when Bryan was a La Cantera. If memory serves me correctly, Joe Caruoso was assisting Bryan in giving lessons back then.

Interesting take. Johnny is 24.

By age 24, Spieth had 3 majors, 5 other top 5 finishes and 11 PGAT wins.

I'll go on record that Johnny won't accomplish any of that for his career.

data golf says 98% chance the cut will move to +3. So if he can't birdie this par 5 he should make it.

Happy he finally made a cut! At this point it's about keeping full status on KFT. Unless he wins, tour card is almost certainly out of reach. Just keep making cuts and having good finishes and he can reset for next year.

yep at this point he dug himself too far a hole to get a tour card, barring a win or an insane run of top 5s. Just getting his full status KFT card next year should be the goal!

He just can't seem to keep the big numbers off his card. You can afford a double over 4 rounds, but you absolutely can't have a double and a triple in the qualifying round.

At this rate, he may not even have conditional KFT status next year. Not sure how it works to get into a KFT tournament in that scenario (do they have Monday qualifiers?) or if you have to try to qualify for status on the PGA Tour Americas, but it's a long way back to the big show at that point.
