Will be moving kiddo up to first apartment in CS in mid August. Wondering a few things:

Course/Greens conditions?

Is driving range back up and running?

Aeration of greens status?

Has anyone played there recently that could lend some info on the above?

TIA

If it's unplayable I can probably host you at Pebble Creek. I know it's not as close to campus but it's an option.

Played this immediate past Sunday. Greens and fairways were perfect. The playing rough (fairway adjacent) is thick and a little too tall. You can lose your ball in it, and they have recently narrowed the fairways in some places. The tall "hazard" rough has been mown and is playable. Bunkers are hit or miss.

Overall, a great course, especially for the price.

Played there June 18th. Greens were not in great shape in my opinion. The bunkers were worse. I had not played it in over a year and it wasn't in great condition.

It is incredible how the campus course gets the most diametrically opposed viewpoints on the conditions any time that it is brought up.

New Info:

Aerification of the course is Aug 4-6. We are planning on playing weekend of 8/16. Since I don't play this course but 1-2 times a year, how fast does this course's greens recover? I've seen some be puttable much faster than others, with some taking several weeks before the Bouncing Bettys stop.

TIA

10-12 days wont be enough time for the greens to recover. You'll get your hops still but it wont be terrible. If its the only option(which is typically the case in BCS) then i would still play. I believe Briarcrest aerated last week as well.

Played 3 times over the summer most recently 2 weeks ago and what I have to share is of the utmost importance.

The fire ants are out of control. They are everywhere. Got bit each time I played there until I was mad enough to say not coming back for a while, and I love that course.

Ended up playing the course this weekend, and wanted to give some feedback for those that may be playing in the coming weeks.

First: The tees in the practice area are in great shape. Obvious dedication to keeping the ropes moved and the aligned hitting areas are in GREAT shape. The landing area is a desert, though. Not sure why no grass, but that really should not matter, but WTH, it's been a long time to at least grow grass. The main practice putting green is representative of on course speed and condition, which is nice. The chipping green area is well kept, but somewhat soggy.

Second: The greens have recovered very nicely from aeration a couple weeks ago and are rolling well for this short period following that procedure. #8 had some green mower reel cut issues that were actually worse than the aeration of the greens overall, but I am sure that will be addressed. The fairways range from a bit wet but green, to slightly toasty which is to be expected from a course that is not private. Overall not bad, and only 3 holes were cart path only besides the normal P3s. I know this course has a reputation of the "native" areas being the only defense the course has, but damn, a 1" first cut just outside of "cart path" to 6" length just off that, and in some cases to low shin deep is crazy. Not sure a spot caddy could even find one just a few feet in second cut. I found a load more balls (some nice new ones) than the few I lost in that stuff. Question here: what does this do to the blades of a mower when they do cut it? Or do we end up walking on balls eventually to hit the one we hit in there?

Overall experience was good, compared to the muni I usually play, by far. The staff was great, the carts were nice (relatively new and in good shape), and playing with KYLE over your shoulder was getting me fired up for football.

Whatever, it was a good time with the family. Looking forward to playing again when we return for a game during AGGIE FOOTBALL season.
