In the DFW area, are there groups that talk about drops coming? I'm in a couple enjoy/trading groups, but I've never seen anything about drops coming.
Dallas (DFW?) Whiskey Club usually has the deets. My sister is super involved in it.
went to the local place to pick up some stuff for our soon to be 21-year-old kid. Ended up meeting the owner of Bajan Rum. He signed the bottle, gave me a hat and shared a family recipe. Plus scored a couple of nice pieces for the collection. 21-year-old is gonna have a heck of a night.

It's a new release, but anyone tried the Redemption "Ancients" 18 year bourbon yet? I had a pour of the Ancients rye from a few years ago and it was absoultely outstanding. Curious if the bourbon is in the same realm.

I tried a pour a few weeks ago and thought it was good. I don't care for tequila, and found that the bourbon notes aren't overpowered by the tequila finish, so that was good. Finding that bottle at MSRP is a buy, so nice job! Enjoy!
Did a Buff-Turkey tasting with some whiskey buddies on a summer trip to Colorado recently. We each brought a buff-turkey and one buddy threw in the Russel's 15. A Dallas Bourbon Club pick from OKI, the Texags bottles, and another Blendery pick. Drank on a beautiful cool evening by the fire.
The Russel's was easy to pick out, and very good, but not as good as any of the Buff-Turkeys. The surprise of the night was the Texags Blendery version was the easy standout. Despite being the highest proof, it was the easiest drinking. So much flavor and viscosity. We all left wishing it wasn't a 375, and my buddies left jealous that I got to drink the rest of that little 375.

Anybody had the Penelope Tokaji cask finish yet? Passed it up a couple times this week at $90 but would like some first hand experience.
I like it. Wife does too. Others here have said the same as well. If I didn't already have three unopened bottles I'd buy one for 90.

Chestnut farms is a private label for total wine so they shill it like it's incredible. I've honestly never tried it, but it gets a bad rep.
To be fair, it's not BAD, it's just not what TW bills it as. It's bourbon flavored bourbon, but just kinda forgettable. Now that being said, I haven't had the single barrel and this looks like a higher proof point, so might be decent. Interested in the review.

I would say this is the biggest culprit. They tend to prey on innocent victims looking for recommendations and in doing so solely push their overpriced house brand that they have high margins on. Many a wife, sister, and friend have been bamboozled into purchasing "The Blantons Killer" for their loved ones.
