Maybe try a "st. Louis style rib" there. But otherwise you should be eating Italian food in that town.
What do you boys want for breakfast BBQ ?.....OK Chili.

We are 3 weeks out! How many of the top 10 from the 2021 edition do you think make the top 10 (if they do a top 10 again) this time? And which ones?
Goldee's
Interstellar
Truth
Burnt Bean
Leroy & Lewis
Cattlelack
Franklin
Evie Mae's
Snow's
Panther City

Went to Terry Blacks a few months ago, I thought it was quite good but not as good as Ten50. I'm sure I'll get flamed but I thought the flavor on the brisket at TBs wasn't on par with Ten50 plus the sauce was average.

Deep Ellum. I think it was good just not as legendary as I had been led to believe.

I think Burnt Bean, L&L, Goldee's, Truth, and Intersteller are only one's of these to be in top 10. What do I know though.

I think the guy is key to BBQ. Opening more locations spreads him too thin. Just my opinion though.

That was my first thought as well. Lots of really good Q out there these days.

Sure sounds like Dayne's is expected to be in top 10.

An Aledo pitmaster sacrificed everything for his barbecue dreams. Now he's anticipating statewide recognition

Quote:

When Texas Monthly Magazine releases its list of the 50 best barbecue joints, also known as the Bible of Texas barbecue, later this month, it's widely expected Dayne's will be in the top 10.

Getting there wasn't easy, but they're no longer homeless, just home to some of the best barbecue in Texas.

"Never once have either one of us turned to each other and said, 'are we calling it quits? Are we done? Is this it?' That's never been an option," said Ashley.

"It's pretty crazy to see that we've ended up where we were trying to go," Dayne said. "It started with a dream and now we've actually made it come true."

I saw somewhere that Terry Blacks is going to open a Houston location too, along with an adjoining hotel.

Ate at Eaker's BBQ in Fredericksburg last week, and Texas Country Reporter was there doing a shoot. Episode should be out later this year, October/November time period.

Always great food there!

Love Eaker BBQ. They lived in our hood in Houston, and we used to get from their food truck all the time. Got me so fat during COVID.

I never had a good meal at Ten50 but willing to give it a shot since it has been awhile since I last went

I didn't enjoy my two meals at Ten50. Atmosphere was cool (and probably cost a fortune). Read an article today saying they were opening up location in Devonshire neighborhood of Dallas. Uppity folks will love their bbq at $50/lb. Probably a smart move by them.

I get the same thing every time. Moist brisket with lots of bark. Fried okra. Sausage. Every now and then I'll get a smoked chicken. The bark on the brisket is elite.

I believe that's in San Antonio at The Pearl. There is one in the works for Houston, but the hotel is in SA.

The one in the heights is definitely planned to have a boutique hotel as well.

This is how I feel about J-Bar-M in East Downtown Houston. Just can't see what all the fuss is about.

I ate at Eaker last summer. Overall, it was some of the best bbq and sides I have ever eaten.

I tried responding to this initially, but then just ended up including all 10 of them. My top 10 list is probably about 15 long...

So I'll take another shot.
If I personally had to cut any, it would probably be Goldee's, Interstellar, and Cattlelack. Maybe Evie Mae's.

Replace them with Blood Bros, Reese Bros, and a couple of spots I've not been to. Teddy's in the RGV?

This is a GREAT comparison IMO. I've been to both and feel the same about both.

I go to J-Bar-M fairly frequently though. It's a convenient and quick stop on the way back from Hobby. It's always good, but not Top 50 stuff. I like the menu and man, did they put some money into it.

The thing that find interesting about J-Bar-M is that the diners there are usually the most beautiful people I've seen at a Texas Barbecue place.

Hahaha I'm much in the same boat. Certainly an ok spot for lunch and I'm not criticizing (too hard) but not Top 50 material. I'll have to look around more at the patronage next time… maybe they pay models to hang around to make the experience better.

J-Bar-M has gone through some phases. But they do have a new guy who says, "My main focus at the moment is getting all the barbecue to 100 percent. It was good, but now it will get even better." I also love the tomatoes side, if it is still there; I haven't been in quite some time.

What is better between Panther City and Hurtado? And what's the order particularly with the sides?

I've met the owner's of both places and they're both run by awesome people. I think it you hit Panther City on a good day, then they're comparable to Hurtado's. I've had them when they're spot on and when they were meh. Hurtado's (Arlington specifically) I've been to 3 times in the last 18 months and it was consistently top notch. If I had to choose one then I'd go Hurtado.

If I'm trying a bbq spot then I'm always getting brisket, ribs, sausage, and a few sides then sharing. The one negative I had there (first time I went) was I didn't think the sausage was very good. I make a lot of sausage though so my expectations are very high. I know he was sending to a co-packer to make it for a while but I believe he switched back to making it himself so it might be better. Have to try birria tacos. Twinkies are good if you're into that. The Hatch chile mac n cheese is great. Mexican street corn is great. Not sure I've had any other sides.

Thanks. Leaning towards Hurtado. Moist brisket lots of bark. Tater tot casserole and either corn or beans. Maybe a rib.

I'm a big fan of Panther City. Hurtado is excellent. The meat is as good as anywhere else. But the awesome sides and extras set apart Panther City for me. Smoked Carne Guisada and homemade tortillas? You kidding me?

Had about a 20 minute wait at 1:45pm yesterday.

I think they've lost a step on the ribs. But that brisket is as good as any of the other top places. And the lean cuts are probably the best, most flavorful lean brisket anywhere.

Also, still the best bathrooms in the game.

I think Cattleack was the truth several years ago but after the sale I think they will fall out of the top 10

The brisket was still great the rib and turkey tasted off. The Mac and cheese which was literal perfection was ruined
