"He's 22, he's Spanish, and I'll be absolutely stunned if he's any kind of DAWG."

So, I beg to differ. I think this guy is going to be the 2nd coming of Vernon Smith. Vernon did not have the 3 point shot (took many that would have been 3s). He was silky smooth.

Vernon rarely hit iron. All net or a bank shot.
Best Aggie shooter I saw in person.
Disclaimer ('79 FATB)

I have a feeling we're about to see Vernon 2.0
I think the DAWG will be Spanish. I hope Bob doesn't remind me he wasn't.

It's preseason, what the heck?

This exactly the point. He could be Kevin Durant but that doesn't make him a DAWG.

That's actually a good question though, who's the best player of all time that was absolutely zero DAWG. Feels like Durant has to be up there.

Their NBA career is irrelevant or DeAndre Jordan would be way higher on the DAWG matrix. He's like the anti Kevin Durant. Might be the best player ever that was basically all DAWG and no skill.

Hitting 3s doesn't make you a dawg. For reference, the original idea was you need skilled players and if you lack skilled players you need dawgs. Solo was a dawg. Wade was skilled.

Curry? I mean he is pure skill but he isn't really bullying anyone.

So just reviewing the convo and trying to wrap my mind around it using former NBA players as examples

Top tier skilled dawgs : Jordan , Olajuwon, Magic, Karl
Malone, Jabbar, Chamberlain, Tim Duncan? , Kobe, LeBron, Bird

Dawgs - not super skilled : Rodman? Moses Malone, Draymond Green, Bill Russell, Dkembe Mutombo, Shaq

Super Skilled , not dawgs : Curry, Durant , Dirk

I could add to this list if I think about it awhile but before I do am I moving in the right direction based on ya'lls parameters?

Yeah this is pretty good!

The real point is you need skilled players and DAWGS to succeed. Ideally your DAWGS are skilled but those are usually really high level recruits that we don't get. So a school like us is usually at our best when we have a good mix.

We were nowhere near skilled enough under Buzz.

Now it looks like we're completely the other way where I kind of worry we're not going to have the ability or the desire to guard anyone, scrap for the ball, battle on the boards, etc. That's why Agee is so important to this team even if he's only like our fifth best player.

I'm very confident that between Isaacs, Mgbako, Griffen and Dominguez that we're going to be able to absolutely light people up from deep, but what are we going to be able to do on the nights those aren't falling. That's when we're going to need the dawgs to step up.

Based on that the only candidates then would seem to be Agee, Federico, and McDermott . maybe Vinson? In that respect Agee has to be the top dawg candidate just based on experience. Unless maybe there is a hidden Donald Sloan type amongst the guards that we just don't know about yet

If Mgbako can put the ball on the floor he's got potential. Vinson needs to be a dawg because I don't see any skill at all on tape.

Like I said at the beginning of the thread though I think all three guards have some DAWG potential, especially Hill and Holloway.
