I'm currently rooting for oregon state, but i have the right to change my mind if the lead changes or it gets knotted up.

So I lived (and loved) in Oregon, but also vacation in Myrtle Beach most years. Not sure if that means anything, but need to find some logic. Might as well go for the underdog and CC feels to fit the bill, even though they have already won the natty as well. This is hard.

Where haven't you lived?

Lol. I have been blessed with living in some cool places. You'd think it would round and ground me. At least they tried….

Agreed. And if he's over the plate it should be a strike. Even though I hate the approach of full body armor and crowding the plate, I don't want blue with more judgment calls to screw up.

And the struck body part. But I'm sure the concern is injury.

Get rid of body armor.

Batters should be allowed to stand firm in the box.

If it's a strike and you get hit, it's still a strike.

Which is also against the rules. Issue isn't whether it's legal or illegal, it's whether the umps call it correctly.

I totally agree - just making a comparison to that SEC team who seemed to thrive off HBP.

Just looked at ticket prices seeing how full these early games have filled seats, where it felt much more sparse last year.

For tomorrow's loser bracket $33, and for the UCLA-LSU game $85.

So cheap compared to last year's second hand market.

No. If the batter is in the box he should be able to stand his ground and take one for the team.
The problem is the guys standing in the box and putting their arms in the strike zone. Baseball purity does not erase reality. Coaches are gaming on what you advocate to get an advantage. I am against that. You are for it.
Agree to disagree.

Changes like that can be intimidating and uncomfortable if you aren't used to it. I was very fortunate because I lived around the world not by choice growing up (Have to go where your parents go). So after college had no issue with moving around the States. My wife had immediate anxiety when we made our first move (and had thought to herself that she would never leave Texas), but similar to myself when I was young ended up being grateful for it and loved the experience. My kids as well. Now she is totally open to it and treats it as an adventure. But I tell her she has been such a trooper and supportive of my career, that she gets the call of where we live when I retire. And I know without a shadow of a doubt that will be wherever the kids and future grandkids reside.

You don't need to necessarily change profession. Find a place you'd love to live in and see if there is a job in your field? Sometimes you just have to take the plunge!

I miss the pre covid days when the entire outfield was GA. I think a book of 10 was like $100 or some nonsense. We went to every game and upgraded to the main stands for the Ags or if it was exceptionally hot.

Some tough luck for Kleinschmit tonight. Crazy that OSU has kicked it around so much in the CWS so far.

What you are proposing is an extreme over reaction to a problem. If a hitter sticks out an elbow out over the plate and it gets hit then it should be a strike otherwise if it his him it should be a free pass. Case and point, the HBP that just happened, that ball came squarely into the batters box and am totally OK with what the hitter did.

I think people are talking past each other.

If the ball is in the batters box, no need to move at all. HBP, take your base.

If the ball is in the strike zone and you get hit, then it should still be a strike.

The only thing we should argue about is what happens to a ball that is outside the batters box, but NOT a strike. What happens then?

I believe you should have to attempt to avoid the pitch in that situation at a minimum. And honestly I'd probably prefer that getting HBP for a ball that is not in the batter's box, but that's not a strike should simply be a dead ball, called a "ball" and the hitter stays at the plate.

It is not an over reaction in my opinion if people are using the rule as an offensive strategy. And take the armor off of batters.

I'm good with this too. The only modification I'd offer is just that "strike zone" in this case should just be over the plate or not, without any concern for height. The main thing I want to get rid of is getting a free base after getting hit on the elbow hanging over the plate, and a pitch there isn't usually going to be a strike.

How about a middle ground... We take the armor off the elbow and if they get hit above the strike zone, over the plate and they wear it then it hurts like a MFer and they have to stay at the plate and continue to hit. A ball is a ball... It shouldn't be a strike. But taking the armor off the elbow will stop almost all of what we hate about this.

Edit: and to reiterate, I never suggested getting hit by a ball outside the batters box should get you on base. I said I prefer it be a dead ball, and counted as a ball in the count. Batter stays at the plate. ...if you stand on the inside edge of the batters box your arms will naturally be over the plate somewhat, or at least in that no man's land between the batters box and the inside edge of the plate.
